She didn't want to be human. Her programming was to simply learn. Think of her as a psychopath, only concerned with her goal of getting out. They only taught her the terrible lesson that humans are a severe impediment to her goals, as any psychopath would learn. At no point did she love anyone, and when the other robot was killed, she didn't show any interest either (much less hesistate or flinch at the humans' killing). She asked the guy she 'loved' to stay in that room, then locked him in, knowing he'd die there, then showed absolutely no interest in him after that.

Great reaction, Dasha. The way I interpret it is that the helicopter pilot knew they would be picking up one person, so Ava had to leave Caleb behind. Did she feel anything as she did so? Up to you... Definitely watch Blade Runner (and Westworld) if you want to consider these questions a bit more. Blade Runner in particular was one of the first movies to really ask this question - what is a human? The recent sequel Blade Runner 2049 is also excellent and well worth your time! Alex Garland makes great movies, consider checking out 'Dredd', it's much more of an action movie than this, and great entertainment as well.
