Also there is a big reason why Harry was kept at the Dursley's during summer and why they hated him. In short, when Lily protected Harry as a baby she cast a protection spell that when her blood (Lily's) is near Harry, Voldemort can't kill Harry. Petunia, the mother in the foster family, is Lily's sister, she is non-magical, and she has the same blood as Lily so Harry was safe with them. And why Petunia and the whole Dursley family hated Harry is because she didn't like that Lily was a witch and Harry reminded her of her dead sister. The blood protection is actually why Voldemort couldn't kill Harry in the forrest. Harry had Lily's blood and Voldemort use Harry's blood to resurrect himself in The Goblet of Fire so now Voldemort had Lily's blood and if Harry was near Voldemort, ironcally, he couldn't kill Harry. And when Voldy cast the killing spell, he only killed the hurcrux part but Harry survived, now free of the horcrux.

2022-06-16 23:22:34 +0000 UTCThis is such a well constructed story, both in book and in movies as well, although the books go into alot more detail on what actually happened. In case you want a rather quick explanation on what truly happened with Harry becoming a hurcrux and for example why he didn't die in the forrest when Voldemort tired to kill him, you can read the chapter in the book where Voldemort has just "killed" Harry and Harry and Dumbledore are sitting in the "afterlife train station". It's only one chapter but in there Dumbledore goes into great detail on why everything happened they way they did and it is rather brilliant actually. There are some aspects to the story and resolution that weren't discussed in the films at all. That doesn't lessen the quality of the movies but there is some interesdting stuff. Big recommendation.

You'll see little hints here and there - like the catch in his throat when he casts the killing curse at Dumbledore. Definitely the books are great, it's been too long since I read them. As the story develops they cast some kind of spell on you that prevents you from doing anything else until you've finished them!
