There are a couple of comments above about a movie called The Right Stuff about America's first Astronauts. The Smithsonian Channel aired an 8 episode series last year based on the same book the 1983 movie was based on and, although I LOVE actor Scott Glenn's portrayal of Mercury Astronaut Alan Shepard who later walked AND golfed on the Moon, I've got to say I REALLY REALLY loved the Smithsonian's series because of details that just couldn't make it into the shorter form motion picture version. You can find the Smithsonian's television serial version on Disney+. I highly highly recommend it.

The 2016 movie Hidden Figures tells the story of their CRUCIAL contributions to the space flight of Mercury Astronaut John Glenn who was the first American, but not the first man, to orbit the Earth.
