thanks for the clarification about Lipton, I was confused when he was back in episode 9 🤣

“OD” stands for olive drab green, the color of the uniforms. So a shorthand to tell someone to grab a uniform. Sgt. Martin shoots Webster the glance because he figured out that the reason he has been assigned to the lead the mission was due to Webster’s part in getting Lt. Jones to take Malarkey’s place. The periodic “bombs” are mortars and occasional artillery. A coordinated bombing via planes is what you saw in Episode 6 when Roe goes into Bastogne.

you might have caught this when editing, but the moment where you caught that they were "discharging" Lipton near the end was the moment he actually received his battlefield commission to be an officer (lieutenant). In order to receive a commission as an officer, they have to discharge him from his role as an enlisted man so he could move up to lieutenant. It was a quirk of the rank structure during WWII that required that. AFAIK battlefield commissions don't really happen anymore, in part because casualty numbers in wars since Vietnam have been relatively small and the pool of well trained replacement officers hasn't been strained to that extent for a long time. Also if you look carefully at the end of the episode before Webster gets on the truck, Cobb is in the background being taken away by MPs (military police) most likely because of his behavior while drunk.

oh I didn’t realize that was his son!

Good call by Winters. As you may know, the actor who played the new young lieutenant (James) (recent grad of West Point) is Tom Hanks' son. As indicated in a comment below, Webster was injured in the leg/foot in Ep 5 by German artillery -- remember he cried out "they got me." You are learning/retaining their names. That's cool you looked at a map -- being interested in the location/geography.

The first house that blew up (not the one at the very end) was the house they got the prisoners from. They rigged it to blow on a time delay and thats when It blew. The last house was just the same shelling as the one they laugh about earlier in the episode.

Winters had been leading the battalion. The proper rank for a battalion commander was Major so the promotion caught him up to the rank he deserved as battalion commander. Lipton had to be discharged as an enlisted man before he could be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant but he stayed with Easy company. 2nd Lieutenant Jones was quickly promoted to 1st Lieutenant because of the grave shortage of officers and also because West Point graduates were considered better prepared for command than graduates from OCS who were called 90 day wonders since their training took 3 months as opposed to the 4 years at West Point.

Webster is wounded in the leg in episode 5. So he missed Bastogne.
