I was prepared to highlight the theme of identity and I even had my usual catchphrase ready (Buffy the communist slayer) but I guess I won't need to do that this time.
So, it is official, you are my favorite Buffy reactor (and I shouldn't have doubted you were gonna understand all the themes right away^^). You even managed to go into little details I haven't noticed yet.
It is a sensational episode and it is still only my second favorite opener of a Buffy season (Yes the show is that good further on).
Once again I feel for Buffy. I know too well the desire to disappear while grieving. You don't want to feel anymore, you don't want to be yourself anymore cause when you do, all you feel is pain and despair. So it's better to feel nothing.
Of course it's not. By becoming numb you're not allowing yourself to grieve. You just pause. You don't feel but that doesn't mean the feelings aren't here inside and, sooner or later, they need to go out for you to be able to move on.
Buffy hits way more too close from home at this point in the show but I guess that's one of the reasons it is still one of my favorite show after all these years.
Keep up the good work Tyler, it's really a pleasure to discover again the show through your eyes.

LOVE that about halfway through you said, βthis question of βwho are you?ββ and then at the endβ¦ βWho are you?β βIβm Buffy, the vampire slayer. And you are?β Amazing π

Youβre so good. Awesome reaction! I agree about Giles overstepping not getting Joyceβs consent. Also when you mentioned Anne being one of Buffyβs inner voices, and Anne blamed Buffy for bringing the demons with herβ¦. I think reflects the way Buffy blames herself too much and asks herself those questions.
