Forward Into the Night (Poem)
Added 2024-02-19 14:35:29 +0000 UTCAs I'm working on The Blood of Life, I've also been inching forward on doing a poetry chapbook. I realize I do have enough content, and the idea of doing something focused on the therianthropic aspect is intriguing. Because of that, I'm going to call the book Therianthropic Dreams, and I'm in the process of looking for a cover artist.
I realize as a writer, I'm sometimes am all over the place with my ideas. I can bounce from deeply historical work to adult stories about pizza and bad furry fox stereotypes. It's honestly quite a range, and if the work didn't all feature anthros, it would appear quite disjointed when put together. Poetry is not something I think there's much of an appetite for in furry, but I do think it would be a nice to have some out with my other books when I go to cons. And thus, since I started planning something, some more words just fell out of my head and onto the page. I wrote this yesterday.
Forward Into the Night
The dawn is too far away,
but the time has come. The time is now.
Find your courage,
and forward into the night.
Let it swallow you whole,
let it blind you, let it smother you,
but stand strong, stride forward,
and hold your fear in check.
Just like the light, the dark is always there calling,
and fear will always be there, but do you fold?
Or do you put your paws forward, no matter how high your hackles get?
Come, forward into the night.
Forward into the despair. Forward on alone.
Forward for those not brave enough,
for those no longer capable and those who cannot take the risk,
for someone has to lead.
You said you were the one, the fearless, the brave,
and now the night is here, can you meet it?
Can you stand the darkness, and the blindness it brings,
and the way it gets into your fur?
Can you be brave?
Can you be the wolf you said you were?
The night waits, oh he who wants to see.
The darkness calls.
Do you answer?
Can you reach the other side?
Can you step forward and open your senses to the night,
and keep your fear in check?
