I quit my job- I'm now a full time YouTuber :)
Added 2018-01-06 01:24:38 +0000 UTCI wasn’t sure this day would ever come but I’m now, officially, a YouTuber in every sense of the word. I quit my job and this is now both my passion and my career.
For two years now I’ve been working roughly 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, nearly every day of the year. Between working a full time job and putting everything I could into my YouTube channel, I’ve sacrificed sleep, time with friends, family and general life stuff. Most challenging, this career meant I had to sacrifice time with my wife, since I was often too busy both on weeknights and weekends. Its for this reason more than any other that I called my boss and told him I was done. I’ll finish up in 4 weeks and then it’s ‘dat u-toob lyfe 24/7’.
If you’re a Patron, you helped make this possible, so thank you. The support I have here gave me a lot of confidence to make this jump, since YouTube revenue is so ridiculously fickle, where one video can go gangbusters, and the next be arbitrarily demonetised by YouTube for reasons no one will ever know. Thank you for helping me achieve this impossible dream. I literally couldn’t have done it without you.
What’s next?
Going forward, I’m going to be making some changes to Patreon to reflect some new content I’m delivering, and some new features arriving on YouTube.
First up, YouTube have informed me that they are going to be adding a ‘Sponsor’ button to my channel page, which works very similar to a Twitch subscription where you can sponsor me for $5 a month and get some chat icons, etc.
At the same time, I’ve begun working with a really talented designer/graphic artist named Anders Bothmann who will be doing special edition versions of my review scripts for major games. I’ll be paying him to do this, so I’ll need to re-coup those costs, and I plan to use Patreon to do that since I want to make these special edition scripts available exclusively to Patrons and YouTube sponsors as a ‘thank you’ for the support.
So going forward, the $5 reward tier will be the one that offers those scripts – everything else will remain unchanged. I’ll provide more info about the YouTube sponsorship thing when it is live (which is hopefully next week).
Later today…
Today, I’ll be dropping my Division review which I’ve been working on over the past 2 weeks. It’s nearly 2 years to the day since I uploaded my first video, so it’s a strange ‘full-circle’ feeling to be doing this now. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks again and see you next week
Ralph

I wish you the best of luck. You're reviews are my go to now for what I should get or what I should stay away from. My deciding factor in whether or not to subscribe to your patreon was your full length review on Nier. This told me a great deal about your understanding of games. Nier is a masterpiece and you are right not one reviewer (with the exception of Jim Sterling) understood what it was and is. You don't jump on a band wagon like others do but you present both sides of the coin in a mature manner. This is the only way I know of in how to show my respect and admiration for your work
