The Plains of Eidolon is here

Hi Patrons,

It's been a very crazy few weeks since PoE launched. I was on holiday at first, and then at PAX, and now having spent dozens of hours in the Plains, I feel ready to review the experience as a whole.

It's a mixed bag- it expands the game in a meaningful and valuable way, particularly in the core combat loop and the boss design. But it's impossible not to be overwhelmed by it all- even as a veteran player- and that experience isn't going to fly when your game is the 4th most played game on Steam.

I feel that the fruits of this labor will take many more months to fully realise, and I hope that DE invest that time, rather than move on to the 'next big thing'.

Regardless, it's a great update, and if you haven't yet checked it out, I recommend doing so :)

What's next for Skill Up?

A few weeks back I posted here asking for some advice on where to take things next: long form, in-depth stuff, or remain focused on guides/news? Thanks to everyone who provided feedback to that. I read every response and really valued them.

I've decided I'm going to be going down the path of less, better quality uploads, rather than the regular news/guides that have been the backbone of my channel to this point. I just enjoy making stuff that people appreciate, and if that means I'll grow slower on youtube due to fewer uploads then I'm ok with that. I always want to talk about a broader range of games and topics, and while I know that will disappoint my viewers who are watching me for a specific game, I feel I love this medium too much to limit myself to only a handful of games.

I have some plans for what's next, but most tangibly, you can expect a video from me once a week now, as opposed to 3-5 times per week. They'll generally be on weekends since this is when most people have the time to watch youtube, especially important for me given how long some of my videos are.

This coming week...

I'm playing Wolfenstein! I'm about 4 hours into it and I gotta say- it's something special. Expect a video on it soon.

Thanks again for the support everyone. Will check in again next week :)

Thanks Nate. Really appreciate your support mate. P.S I'm in Sydney :)

Hi Ralph, I hope all is well in your world today - BTW, what time zone are you in? I believe there are like 5 time zones in Australia, and I'm basically on the other side of the planet in Northern Michigan, USA, so it would be helpful in trying to coordinate any game play in the future! Like your supporter above, I didn't have a chance to reply to your question about content until now, but after reading your newest post, I must say that I think you're heading in the right direction. I started watching Skill Up after finding your Division content through Marco Style's channel. I subbed right after watching a round-table discussion you hosted with a few other Division pros about the state of the game and its upcoming patch content. Since then I've really enjoyed catching up on the remainder of the content previously posted on your Channel. The biggest thing that struck me, especially with the Destiny 2 review, was your very multi-faceted, in-depth and fair minded approach. While you made it clear that you were certainly not a big fan of Destiny 2 in its current state, your review still included an enthusiastic nod to several positive aspects of the game. The easiest way I can think of to describe your Destiny 2 review is this - in one of your videos you talk about how you simply love “gaming”, on so many different levels, and across so many different genres throughout the industry. Well, that completely shines through in the delivery of your D2 review – all of your reviews, actually. That’s why they’re so damn good. I don’t think I had ever really seen or heard a review quite like it before. That’s why I think you’re doing the right thing. It’s not that channels doing the other types of videos, and doing more of them, is a bad thing – hell, I find them extremely helpful actually – it’s just that you have the capacity to do so much more. So, that’s why I’m supporting you, and I look forward to seeing more of your reviews and your expanded content in the future. My bride thanks you too, BTW, for all of the time I spend on Warframe now. Yes, I’m taking “free-will” right out of the equation, and putting that all on you…

Awesome, look forward to the direction you’re going and can’t wait to watch your POE Review!
