Chapter 45

good

The natural way this story develops in this chapter makes it one of my favorites. Right up there with Chapter 6 Handful of Dirt, which was SO long ago but has a great natural story to it that it really sticks with you. I love that the chapter ends with them returning to that same place. I miss Paz! It has been too long since she has had a major spotlight. Hope to see her again soon.

Well I mean, considering how Annie is about sometimes overthinking things/how she is in some social situations, I feel like the motivation Tom gave her behind running away is sound. I agree though, I am the same way (and also assumed that may have been a part of her leaving the area asap, hah).

Did you overthink this? When I walk in on a friend in what appears to be a romantic clinch my instant reaction is to back out and leave them to it.

Possibly my favourite quote from the whole comic: "As a creature in this world, you will face many hardships in your life. Who you love should not be one of them." I saved that panel on my computer, just in case. ♥

(and kat's anxiety makes sense to me too, even if the court is supposed to be super accepting, bc i am queer and live somewhere generally considered accepting, but the anxiety is Still There and also so is the homophobia rearing its head sometimes. but i don't wanna read stories about that all the time (or actually ever, i just want happy queer normalcy)! but also it sucks when everyone's like Homophobia's Over Hooray bc it isn't. idk i think a world where homophobia never existed makes more sense or is a nicer fantasy than one where it did exist but everyone's somehow Moved Beyond It, maybe that's just me) (same with other bigotry)

I like the way you handled this chapter like 'we will acknowledge that homophobia exists and people are dicks and you can never really know who will be and who won't be, but that's not so much of a thing in this place and this setting and among these people'. it was a nice way to just be like 'that's real but this story isn't about that', esp with kat's prior anxiety about that sort of thing. i just think it's important that the anxiety is validated at the same time as it's dispelled, not like 'you're crazy/paranoid/judgemental for worrying about that'
