Too Big for the Party?

She stood outside the building's elevator with her partner, who was comically underdressed in a black mall t-shirt with the phrase 'This is my Halloween costume." stamped across it proudly. She, herself, wore a light blue Alice dress. She had even managed to get the apron right!

“Hard to believe this thing was handmade by that size witch from campus,” she said, admiring the perfectly round, sparkly, green glass-like candy that had been hiding in her apron pocket for the past few hours. “She said it’d help me ‘win big’ at the party's costume contest! That $100 prize is mine!” she giggled, twirling the candy between her fingers smugly.

Before he could reply, she had already unwrapped it and popped it into her mouth. Sweet. Fizzy. Spicy? Was that...cardamom? A strange warmth bloomed behind her ribs almost immediately.

Suddenly, the floor seemed to tilt. The walls felt much closer than before. Her partner’s grin faltered as her perspective rose inch by inch.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! You were supposed to take that right before the contest!” he yelled, stepping back.

“Shit!” she gasped, eyes wide. “I didn’t even think about that! Oh my god, I’m getting so big!”

The elevator chimed and opened before them, far below her now, doors parting to a space much too small.

Her partner stared at it, eyes wide, then back up at her. “Babe, umm, how are we gonna get you in there?”

She looked down at him, cheeks flushed now, a playful smile tugging at her lips. “Maybe,” she said with a wink, “we could just stay in tonight?”
