New RE:3 DLC Part 2

Jill pressed her back against the cool oak panel of the desk. Her pulse hammered in her ears. She dared a glance around the corner.

The zombie at the end of the corridor groaned and shuffled, his ruined frame swaying with each clumsy step. He towered like a monolith. More than twice her height. His clouded eyes rolled uselessly as the stench of decay filled the air. He didn't know she was here.

But beyond him. At the far end of the hallway. Salvation.

A potted Blue Herb. Its luminous leaves glowed faintly under the flickering fluorescent light. Exactly what she needed to reverse the pheromone’s pull before her body dwindled further.

Jill exhaled. Her chest rose and fell against the snug band of her sports top. Her tiny frame trembled. Less than three feet tall. Smaller with every second. She could not measure herself but she felt it. The way the tiled floor stretched like an endless field beneath her boots. The way the desk she hid behind seemed the size of a fortress wall.

“Come on Valentine,” she muttered. “You’re still S.T.A.R.S. Size doesn’t matter.”

Her muscles bunched. She sprinted from cover.

The zombie’s head snapped toward her. His rotten jaw yawned open in a wet howl. His arms rose. Massive. Pale. A grotesque parody of human hunger.

But Jill was fast. So fast. Her tiny boots slapped the floor in quicksilver rhythm. She darted like a shadow under the sweeping grab of his hand. Her body rolled low. Smooth. Almost balletic. Adrenaline slowed the world around her. For a second it felt like she was gliding through air.

Then the plant was before her.

The Blue Herb’s stalk rose over her like a tree. The pot itself was impossible. She wrapped her arms around the clay rim and heaved. It did not budge. Too heavy.

The zombie was coming. His steps dragged closer. His moan thick with hatred. With hunger.

“Damn it.”

She dropped and scrambled to the roots. Clutched the lowest leaves in both hands. With a grunt she tore. The stems snapped free. She stuffed them into the waistband of her sweatshirt.

The zombie’s shadow fell across her.

He reached. Fingers like bone scythes.

“Not today.”

Jill dove forward. She ducked between his legs. His hands snapped shut on empty air. She rolled, her small body a blur of motion across the grimy tiles. She was breathing hard but every move flowed like instinct. Like she was born to move at this size.

Her tiny legs carried her faster than she believed possible. She bolted down the corridor toward the detective’s office. The moans behind her swelled in fury. The undead giant turned to pursue.

Jill grabbed the door handle. She shoved it open and slipped inside. Slammed it shut behind her with all her weight. A wet impact shook the glass. The zombie’s body pressed against the door. His ruined face smeared gore across the fogged pane.

Jill threw the lock. She staggered. Grabbed the nearest chair. With a grunt she dragged it to wedge beneath the knob. The scrape of wood echoed in the tense silence.

Finally she collapsed back against the wall. Her chest heaving. Her body trembling.

She reached into her pouch. Her tiny hands pulled out the red herb. The green. And the torn blue leaves she had fought for. They quivered in her grip.

She had to figure out the mix. Had to do it fast. Before her body shrank further.
