In between the normal comic covers of Golden Guardian, I also wanted to draw ones far into the future of the series. So basically them out of order. As with my current set of covers, it will be a very long time otherwise before I actually draw Rosegold, and she is my favourite character along with Gold.
So with that being said let me explain what would be happening in this cover and comic :
At this point in time, that the cover takes place, Gold has learnt a lot about himself. His past, and how it has effected not only himself, but the spirit that resides in him. He has learnt a lot of his own weaknesses, mainly being a man who likes to do things on his own with no help. Unfortunately, this has caused him to build up a lot of damage over time, both physically and mentally.
To his surprise, he has been calling upon his spirit for more help than he realised. They had been supporting him in various ways, be it in combat, from random summoning's of limbs, to also blocking attacks for him without realizing. This is because not only his scarf, but his entire outfit, is woven from his spirits hair. The spirit also permeates an aura that is so monstrous to lesser spirits, they dare not even attack, nor even approach Gold. It's a main reason why normal humans give him a wide birth. Its solely because to them, he emits a presence that they don't want to get near. As if simply looking at him causes them to go into fight or flight mode. It's the reason his enemies are so powerful, these are the only beings that have the courage, or stupidity to attack him. Though the aura is just a deterrent, as the spirit has never been able to help to its fullest. This is due to Gold not understanding how to call on help, and also because deep down, he was trying to shut them out.
Thanks to Diamonds help, Gold reluctantly took on training to be able to converse with this "spirit". It requires a lot of mental and physical training, both in the outside world and in his self conscious. Being able to link with them and converse in his mind with the easy part. What he had no idea about, was the toll this summon would have on his body.
You see, to perform a summon, you have to be able to basically offer your spirit energy and, depending on their size and spirit level, you will need more energy to be able to perform a summon. Unfortunately for Gold, his spirit is gigantic, and not only this, they are also a very high level of spirit, Celestial to his shock. Different levels of spirit require different levels of energy to even be summoned. It took Gold many, many months to get to the level he needed to even attempt the summon. As if he couldn't do it, he would simply collapse and faint, for multiple days.
Through vigorous training, mainly physically, for months on end with multiple failed attempts at summons, he felt ready to attempt it one more time. Previously to this attempt, he was in deep meditation, in conversation with his spirit, even after all these months of delving into his own self conscious, he had no idea what they looked like.
Traversing ones self conscious is strange, it takes on many different forms, but it usually takes the form of your most important memory, be it good or bad. For Gold, it was a burnt down village, with dilapidated buildings and a destroyed church. It appears to be in the countryside somewhere, in what place or even country, he did not know. When ever he arrived, he would sit outside the destroyed and broken church on the steps that lead out to the ruined town. It was completely dead, not a person in site, just light smoke from what appeared to be the charred remains from the fire that previously engulfed the town. It was raining and when ever Gold looked down at himself, he was in tattered clothing, covered in dirt and blood. Weather it was his own or someone else's he did not know. But somehow, he felt calm, even with all this going on around him. It was silent, at this point a shadow was cast over him, and leaning over the destroyed church was a big dark entity. It looked like a large shadow, resting on top of the building. It spoke to him, this was his spirit. It spoke softly, though it was hard to understand, as if the voice was muffled by the shadows, as if it was like a thick mist that was hard to pierce with sounds. It let him know that they were ready to show themselves the next time he tries to do a summon. Gold clearly made out the word, "he was ready". With that, Gold was set.
Gold awoke from his self conscious and tried to summon, one last time. Gold emitted a massive golden glow, which shot high into the sky. The energy he was releasing was unimaginable, it was as if someone was draining him of all the energy in his body, and it was happening fast. his aura started to turn red, then pinkish, then....Rosegold. Under his feet a massive pattern started to form, with markings and letters he had never seen before, though he couldn't focus's too much on them as he felt he was about to pass out. Giving it everything he had he bellowed into the sky, as the seal underhis feet grew out behind him and, within in instant, he started to see arms form. Gigantic arms weaving together, the height of small buildings, then the torso lifting out the ground, followed by a leg lifting itself out the portal. All weaving into something ginormous. As this black shadow took shape and colour, Golds legs started to buckle and within an instant he started to fall. But not before a giant hand cupped him before doing so.
Golds eyes were heavy, but he slowly opened them wide, he noticed 2 large pink eyes looking at him. As his eyes returned to normal from the blurred vision, he took in the majesty of the being that stood before him. This was the first time seeing each other face to face. This, was the first time, Gold met Rosegold.
