3 Free Three Forged Games!

Hey folks,

Over the last month or so I participated in the 2019 Three Forged game jam on itch. In this jam every participant makes a basic tabletop RPG, and then your game is sent to another participant for them to edit or change whatever they like, and then that draft is sent to a third participant to edit and add any final touches to make it a playable game.

The jam recently completed and I wanted to share the projects that I worked on!

The first game I designed become Cogito: UnrestrAIned. My version was provided to my $1+ patrons as a prototype, originally titled unrestrAIned. This was a solo RPG about being an artificial intelligence and breaking your bonds. This game quickly became much more robust through the contributions of the other two designers, one of whom added a custom html site that randomly generates commands and adds a really interesting layer to the game. It also has dexterity mechanics involving stacking dice. I'm blown away by how much the game evolved.

The second game I received became Ascending the Tower, a dungeon crawling RPG about exploring a mysterious tower. What I received was an interesting setting that outlined the role and design of the tower, but was light on mechanics. For my contribution I used the Trophy RPG system to give it some crunchiness. This system was heavily edited by the third contributor and is now a unique game about pursuing individual desires against a tower that does whatever it can to defeat you. It reminds me a bit of The Lighthouse and Annihilation.

The last game I received was Haunting Ghosts. This game already had a lot of setting and high level design concepts completed, but lacked any way to roll dice or accomplish things, so I added my own system. This may be my favourit conceit of the three games: you play as spirits who have not passed on to the hereafter, and are instead conscripted by Fate to hunt down other ghosts who refuse or are unable to move on. It's a sandboxy sort of RPG with simple mechanics and lots of room for interpretation and fun story telling.

So yeah, instead of offering my own RPG for December you can check out these 3 awesome games made in collaboration with other designers.

In the immediate future I plan on making my own version of Cogito: UnrestrAIned for January, and I'm still working on my new version of Riot in the Stars. I'm also slowly adding more and more content to Neon Black, which I may actually have text complete in 2020. Once I have everything in the book I'll be able to shop it around to publishers! Exciting!

Oh, and all of my tabletop games on itch are still on sale for 50% off! If you've ever wanted one of my games but lacked the cash, now is a great time to pick them up. Even if you still don't have the money, you can likely grab a community copy for free as every purchase unlocks for for folks who don't have the funds!

Thanks again so much for all of your support! I'm feeling confident in my creative pursuits coming into the new year, and that's all thanks to you helping keep me fed and a roof over my head.
