SHUX, Sales, and Super Powers

Hey Patrons!

Just over a week into October and quite a lot has been happening.

I recently posted my latest small RPG, Wild Speed: Space Family, onto my itch.io store. Do check that out if you haven't already, especially if you are a fan of ridiculous action films like the Fast & Furious.

I also attended SHUX 19 this past weekend, where I ran demos of my cyberpunk RPG Neon Black. The game was very well received and I had a great time running the game and meeting some excellent folks, including other indie rpg designers!

I decided to use SHUX as a way to test out running a sale on my ithc.io. Folks can get 30% all my games this week. If you would like to buy any of my games for yourself or a friend, now would be an excellent time to do so by using this link: https://sohkrates.itch.io/shux19

I've also been working on a few projects recently, so I wanted to fill you all in on what will be coming up on the ol' patreon.

I've been wanting to tell a super hero adjacent story for a while now. A story told from the folks on the sidelines, who are collateral damage in a world where omnipotent beings can mess up a city or make half the population disappear. Originally I thought I could  write this as a series of second hand short stories, sort of like how the novel World War Z is constructed. Each chapter would be a different perspective on the unfolding situation.

But since I can't do anything simply I had another thought: wouldn't it be cool if this story was told in the same way we receive a lot of news about unfolding world-altering events, through social media! So I've been messing with Twine, a text adventure game engine, to design a faux social media system where the reader can see this tale of enhanced human beings from different social media accounts. One chapter could be a freelance journalist, another a science popularizer, another a conspiracy theorist.

It's tentatively titled Post-Now, but we're still in early days there so we'll see.

I've also been messing around with a cyberpunk solitaire game based on the game Gridcannon made by Tom Francis. I'll have a prototype version of that available soon for patrons. Ever since falling in love with the Dungeon Solitaire games by Matthew Lowes I've wanted to make something like this so I'm pretty excited. I'll think I'll do a similar release style to Dungeon Solitaire, releasing the basic game based on playing cards for free, and releasing and advanced version with additional rules based on tarot cards for $5 on my itch store.

Also, I haven't forgotten about that system agnostic single player RPG idea. I'd like to focus more on single player experiences going forward. It's easier for me to test, and honestly I'd love to see more solo and journaling RPGs out there in the world. So I'm reading and playing a few more of those to see what's out there. This will probably result in more tailored solo RPG experiences like Spooky Action at a Distance before I eventually get my head around a complete solo RPG system.

Thank you again for all your support and allowing me to pursue these ideas! You're the best.
