As some of you may know, I'm absolutely obsessed with the cover artwork on old paperback romance novels. I find them to be utterly gorgeous in how unapologetically fantastical they are. I have ALWAYS wanted to try my hand at making my own, and this was finally the opportunity when the idea struck me!!
I hand lettered the title, which took a lot longer than expected. I actually have quite a bit of experience making my own fonts/doing lettering, but this vintage romance novel style was a new one for me.
I love how Shadowheart and Wyll bond over reading romance novels in their banter in-game, and also Karlach's famous scene about her fantasizing about Dammon before bed...
My idea for Hellsbound Hearts was that perhaps Volo tried his hand at writing spicy and perhaps not-very-accurate erotica about Karlach and Dammon. I've seen that he does have a canon penname for erotica but I decided against adding it to the cover as I think it's so obscure of a reference that it would probably end up getting a lot of questions, lol.
I hope you guys enjoy seeing these two Tieflings making eyes at each other in Avernus!!!
