Outrage of the Ancients Chapter 29: Buried Evil (Alternative Title: Diabolus ex Machina) (Book 2 Start)

The Third Challenge, [The Waking of the Unliving], has now begun, giving life to objects that never should have had it.

The Second Challenge, [The Breaking of Graves], has concluded, and the dead will no longer rise. However, existing undead will continue to exist until they are slain.

The Fourth Challenge, [The Wrath of Natural World], will begin in fifty days.

Time remaining: 49:23:59:59

The world continued to move above his tomb, his prison, the only thing indicating that today was not yesterday, last week, or, hell, the last century, being the messages from that damn System.

He’d been hoping, praying that this “Breaking of Graves” would destroy his prison as well, given that it was, in fact, also his tomb, but no such luck. No, instead, there was the voice of this arcane meddler informing him of more powers being gained, powers that he could not use with this damn yew sword that still impaled his heart.

His clothing, the empty sheath of his dagger, even the casket he’d been inside during a previous burial attempt, all had rotted away. Countless iron weapons that had been thrust through his body when he’d finally been brought down, and now, they were nothing but dust, his body long since having healed the injuries.

But that damnable sword was still there, fresh and vibrant as if it hadn’t simply been carved from fresh wood but outright grown from a living tree, and nothing he could do was able to affect it. Not now, but that situation would likely not last forever. Not with the rate at which he was gaining power.

[Origin Vampire Lv. 24 -> Origin Vampire Lv. 25]

[Skill gained: Bloodthirst Orignator]

Then, a few hours afterwards.

[Origin Vampire Lv. 25 -> Origin Vampire Lv. 26]

[Skill Boost gained]

And, going by the clock on the System messages, the next day, he gained another Level.

[Origin Vampire Lv. 26 -> Origin Vampire  Lv. 27]

[Skill gained: Automatic Blood Absorbtion]

He’d started out at a seemingly lowly Level 11, but kept going, kept growing, and with every passing day, he gained more power, growing ever closer to escape.

[Skill gained: Finishing Bite]

[Skill gained: Auto-hemokinesis]

[Class Evolution: Origin Vampire Lv. 35 -> Origin of Bloodthirst Lv. 36]

And even the second change of his “Class”, whatever that was, was not the end of this.

[Skill gained: Original Sin of Blood]

[Skill gained: Sanguinem Infernalis]

Bit by bit, he was gaining power, and with every passing day, that yew sword was looking ever more fragile.

************************************************

Well, actually, this chapter is going to be the prolog of book 2, but I already wrote it, so it’s getting posted.

I'll be taking a bit of a break and continuing to write this series because I've still got momenutm, until I've finished book 2.

After that, I’ll either be finishing the OotA planned trilogy or writing Museum Core’s third book and then finishing this series.

Either way, after OotA is complete, I’ll finish Museum Core and then likely tackle the Apocalypse Redux sequel series. Or I’ll write another series in which historical people play a major role and I don’t limit myself to the overlap between people with existing myths about their return and ones I actually know enough to write about.

FYI, I’d probably be going with Sam Colt, Marie Curie, Jan Zizka, Subutai Bahadur, Nicola Tesla, possibly Hildebrand again, John Dee, Elizabeth Bathory, maybe Anastasia Romanov, Paraceslus, Tomoe Gozen people like that.

Though that being said, I’d also have to build a world for that story.

Anyway, point is, I have enough stuff planned to keep me busy for the next half-decade or so, and I hope to continue to be able to be a writer going forward.

Hope you enjoyed Book 1 of Outrage of the Ancients and Book 2 should be starting soon-ish, it’s going to have a lot more action in it.

(Oh, and for anyone trying to figure out who is talking in this chapter, I’m referring to him as the “first vampire” in the sense that he is one of the oldest beings who exclusively drinks blood, not one of the dozen different Greek and Mesopotamian critters who can feed on blood, souls or life force, depending on which story you believe.)
