Magebuster Survey Results, and Future Plans

It's been two weeks since Magebuster has been completed and published. Time for an update!

First things first, the game has been performing well. On Steam alone, the game has sold over 900 copies. It's also caused a surge in sales for Demon King Domination (due in part because the two can be bundled together). I can't wait to see what Steam's financial report will look like at the end of the month.

In addition, a generous 95 people have filled out our survey about Magebuster and future games. Let me share some of the more interesting bits of data with you.

The first question was, of course, which ending people preferred. I've very happy to see that even though there were favorites, each ending did get some love! <3

The top two were (somewhat unsurprisingly) Endings 4 and 6. People like their vanilla romance and hypno-sex.

The player reaction to the combat system has been good for the most part, and as you can see from the graph, it seems the majority of players liked it.

However, what this chard does not show are the numerous personal complaints and bad reviews I've seen about the combat system, from certain players that wanted to just watch the story content, had trouble with the system, or just didn't want to face a challenge in seeing the game's endings.

This graph is the one I consider more telling about the combat system, given how few people saw it as one of the main appeals of the game, despite its popularity in the former one.

Given the popularity of writing, voice acting, art, and sexual fetishes, I'm definitely considering making future games not so challenging, or not including a combat system so players can simply enjoy the content without a barrier to entry. That's one of a few things that I'm looking to experiment with in future projects.

Another thing that I'm hoping to experiment with in the future is story structure. based on the results of the survey, it seems there is a clear bias towards games with multiple branches and endings as opposed to one longer storyline.

Though on the other hand, there were a sizeable amount of responders that preferred only a few branches with more content instead of simply increasing the number of branches.

Demon King Domination had 3 endings. Magebuster had 6. But in those games, there was only one sex scene per ending, and no sexual content in the common threads between them. In the future, I'm looking to try incorporating more content, but not by just increasing the number of possible endings, but by adding more common-route content, and more content per ending.

Here's a fun one. I guess a lot of people like somewhat realistic-sized anime tiddies on their fantasy waifus. Who knew?

Interesting result here for sure. The majority of people want full voicing (and i kind of expected that) but there are also a sizeable portion who appear to only want female voices, or no voices at all if the resources can be spent elsewhere.

Now, I still do hope to cater to the majority and make full voicing when possible, but I do feel good knowing that a good number of people are okay with a lack of male voices, or no voices at all if it isn't possible.

Now, the final chart ended up a little mangled due to the larger number of data points, but I'll give you a summary.

Here are the top fetishes, and the percentage of users that checked them in the survey:

1. (67%) Mind Control/Hypnosis

2. (60%) Corruption/Degrading resistance

3. (51%) Vanilla/Basic Consensual Sex

4. (49%) Rape through blackmail/hostage/coercion

5. (42%) A tie! Tentacles and Incest/Pseudo-Incest

7. (41%) Impregnation/pregnancy

8. (38%) Bondage/Restraints

9. (32%) Four-way tie! Exhibitionism/Public sex, Anal/Butt play, Netori (stealing another man's girl), and Monster/Animal sex (bestiality).

Interesting results to see, and I will definitely consider the content of future games based on the results. I won't specifically cater to it, as the sample size is still relatively small compared to my complete user-base, and I would definitely prioritize a cohesive story I'm proud of over a mishmash of what appears to be popular.

But still, there's damning evidence everywhere that certain things are here to stay. Mind control and vanilla romance seem to be strong throughout the entire survey, and you can likely expect more of them.

So then, what specifically am I planning to do with these results?

I've been working with my artist buddy Kronifer to come up with game ideas for the future, and we've been referring to the survey results to make some of our decisions.

Of those ideas, there are two we are seriously planning on making.

---

The first is a game that we intend to create for the Nanoreno 2019 game jam, over the course of the month of March. For those who aren't aware, Demon King Domination was originally created for this jam last year, so you can expect a similar-sized small experience.

Because this game will be smaller and be produced quicker, we intend to experiment a bit with it to see what our audience prefers, and how well certain tactics serve our brand.

The game is planned to include:

- two endings, with sexual content before and after the division.

- simple player choices instead of a combat system.

- more locations and settings (we hope to hire a background artist with our new budget)

- full voicing, working with yet another new actress.

- A focus on mind control and vanilla, letting the player choose whether to be forceful or gentle.

- a sexy dark-skinned elf girl.

We expect to give further details about this project by the end of the month, have a playable version by the end of March, and a complete version to release on Steam in April.

---

Our second game is still going through design shifts, but we have cemented some of the following plans:

- A much more robust game with around 12-15 sex scenes, possibly for a higher price.

- Two contrasting heroines, each with their own style.

- a much longer common route with few/no divisions.

- If there is a combat system, it will be more easy/accessible.

- a more modern setting, with different elements of fantasy.

This project will likely be announced and start development after finishing the first game above, around April. Then again, it could also possibly get scrapped if we deem it too ambitious to make when we're still just a small team of 2 people.

Hopefully that gives all of you a better idea of what we're looking at, and what we're working on. We hope to share more with you soon!
