They're in a mess because EVERYONE kept screwing up. Goku is a moron and we know it, vegeta let himself be played and now instead of working together with goku he knocks him out and goes to fight by himself. Gohan was doing nothing for extended periods of time, and the supreme kai, well, you've already been pointing out his mistakes. But what i liked about the supreme kai at that last part, is that in that last moment of fight or flight, he decided to fight. Pointless as he and everyone knew it would be, but i liked it
