Nailed his actual motivation pretty spot on. Although it was poorly conveyed in the anime, he did want to be a god. Less to control everything, but more to create his Dreamworld. The "death on defeat" was there to force people to take it seriously, otherwise he was worried people would be like you and find ways to kill themselves on purpose :).

2025-02-18 14:05:19 +0000 UTCSo, in the original he did just say “I don’t even remember anymore”, and people hated that. Hence the “No, can you imagine? 2 years and that’s what I give you?” Same wrt “What, you wanna end things 25 floors early? Seems sudden and anticlimactic, but sure.”
