I had this explained to me by another manga, a lot of schools in Japan actually have rules against students having jobs & in a lot of Asian countries students are seen as repetitiveness of the school they're going to so you can actually get in trouble for stuff outside of school. As for the gym scene is mostly Frankensteined because those chapters heavily involved a character that was adapted out of the anime, so that's probably explains the plot hole of Yugi just showing up

2025-02-13 20:54:30 +0000 UTCThe scene in the warehouse was contrived because it wasn't in the original manga, the anime made it up to explain in a quick fashion why Tea became friends with Yugi. The reason the anime writers had to do that was because there's actually an entire lengthy first arc in the manga that got cut from the show. It showed in detail things like how the four of them became friends and how Yugi got the milennium puzzle, but since the card game wasn't a thing in this first part, the anime decided to cut it entirely and skip to the first Yugi and Kaiba duel and show the cool monster battles as soon as possible. Yeah, there was actually a time when there were no card games in yugioh, lol.
