Team Four Star mentioned that the jokes got harder to write because they were more critical of themselves. This led to slower release schedules and more quality. Freiza Saga was released over 2-3 years. Cell was released over 6 years. I waited a whole year for episode 60. Worth it.

2024-04-29 19:40:29 +0000 UTC6:49 Goku does get it in the show proper the DBZA just plays up his obviousness to the extreme, I guess the best way to describe Goku in the actual show is that he has a somewhat naive and child like innocence but not actually stupid he understands a lot more then people(fans) give him credit for. He understands love and such he just expresses his in an atypical way, kind of asexual coded in my opinion.
