But it's anime canon. The anime treats its fillers as anime canon too, as well as the anime-only jokes. And this movie is canon in the anime, it didn't just stop being canon because the anime continued.

Because it was looking like Gintama wasn't going to get renewed for good. The running gag of "This show will get canceled." And "Final episodes" was very real. I have been watching Gintama since 2008 and we never thought we would get anything past this movie. That's why alot of the OG fans read the manga as well. It was the only way we could consistently get more Gintama. Long story short: not the final movie, not canon at all.
