I saw this fun detail somewhere (maybe on YouTube or Tumblr back in the day): Whenever Hiccup talks to his dad, he tries to keep his head down and eyes aimed low. But Astrid doesn't let him do that. Astrid forces Hiccup to look at her whenever they talk by putting herself below his line of sight. So he can't 'run away' from talking to her like he has learned to do with Stoic. It's so good!!! I can't wait for you to get to 2 and 3! It's such an amazing trilogy!

2025-08-01 20:45:45 +0000 UTCI think another thing to note about the scene where Toothless reveals the saved Hiccup is that Toothless waits for Stoick to apologize to his son. We can say it’s dramatic timing but I think the expression and then unfurling of the wings shows it was intentional on Toothless’ part, in a way that shows Toothless protecting Hiccup not just physically, but sort of emotionally as well. I think the microexpressions on Stoick definitely add more depth than I think you gave him credit for but they can be easily missed so I think the comment about feeling like he flipped based off of achievement still holds to some extent. But I chalk that and how quickly Astrid gets on board to all ages movie priorities. The tv shows are pretty much episodic fluff, I don’t think they offer much in terms of character growth or writing outside a few episodes, and idk how much you need Snotlout’s father troubles or such. The other two movies are absolutely worth watching though! I look forward to hopefully seeing them on this channel! Glad you loved this movie, I was obsessed with it as a kid
