Especially because Laurens father was talking about how he (Laurens) had this dream of recruiting three thousand men for the first all-black military regiment. He then wrote, “The surviving members of this regiment have been returned to their masters.” Laurens was so close to achieving his goal, but in the end- with his death- everything he fought for just went up in flames. The men he “freed” were sent back to continue being slaves. I agree that throwing himself into his work is a coping mechanism, but I have a feeling a big part of it comes from desperation as well. He won’t throw away his shot because at any moment if he waits- he could lose his shot. Anyway, I’ve rambled enough 😅😂 I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and breakdown!
