Along the boarder of Athui and Nogal, something horrific has happened. The rattle of gun fire and explosions had stopped, as a new sound etched from the skies. Blackened clouds swirl like a vortex opening in the center of the battlefield. Through the smoke and fire, a bright blue spiral shoots out of the clouds. Athui and Nogal soldiers look up in awe. Tanks, APCs, and artillery stops. And as the field goes silent, a tendril of blue mist reaches out from the pillar of light at the center of the vortex.
The spiral descends down, before gripping onto a single fallen Athui soldier. His uniform was bloodied from several gun shot wounds, one to the hip, and his hand missing several fingers from a near by detonation that happened earlier. But as the tendril wraps around his battered and beaten corpse, his skin begins to melt off. Muscle, blood, eyes, sloughing off into a mix of biological slop against the darkened ground below him. With only his uniform, his skeleton remaining, the rib cage of his corpse begins to glow that same blue hue. Broken bones move, and his form slowly rises from the dead state.
Still living beings watch in horror as their comrade slowly comes back to life. Getting to his feet, the blue like fire spreads up his spine and into his head. Slowly shambling close to a Nogali soldier, the shocked young man watches in horror before the jaw drops. A flame of spectral blue roars from his eyes, nose, and mouth as the skeletal soldier screams an unholy screech into his now bleeding ears.
Across the battlefield, more and more fallen corpses go through the same transformation. Men and women, missing guts, limbs, bodies, they begin to rise once more. A deathly rattle of bones, and the screams of their ever pained souls reaching across the battlefield before them. There is a silent shock that covers the field, before the horde of freshly melted corpses let out a unified, pained howl of death. The chatter of gun fire resumes, though this time not from the Athul or Nogali.... But from their shared corpses now shambling against their former friends and allies....
