I spent most of yesterday pushing polygons around and modelling this 3D version of my main character for Obsession (my film). I'm really pleased with the result of how close to my drawings and design he looks. Though I will not use him as a rendered 3D character in the film, having a 3D version will definitely come in handy as I can use him as a base layer and then draw on top of it. I can play around with different framings of the character and also different poses for the shots.
For a recent job I had for a game trailer for my friends game, I modelled the characters in 3D and then drew my 2D line work and details on top of it. This allows me for example to have slow orbits of the character that doesn't cause a massive headache trying to animate that straight up in 2D. Hopefully that will be released in the near future as I really want to show you guys how those came out.
I have recorded the full process of modelling my character above, so expect some videos coming about this. I thought we could dive into both modelling, texturing, rigging and also prepping for making a character like this. Maybe split it up in a few episodes so we have time to focus on one thing at a time and not rush it.
I will also be making a YouTube video or two around this topic I'm sure. But that will of course not go as deep into it.
Let me know if you are interested to see me break down this in a few videos.
Cheers!
