The first time the compass pointed at Jack, after Norrington talked to Elizabeth, was because she wanted to know who sent Will on Davy's Jone ship and the compass pointed at Jack. She was VISIBLY upset by that because she wanted to trust Jack and she'd been deceived. Then when it pointed at Jack on the beach, it pointed the same direction Will came from. When it comes to Elizabeth, she uses different tactics to get what she wants and that's it. But there is also her wish for freedom, and a pirate life gives her that. Jack is what she wishes she could be. She is attracted to the adventure Jack could give her, but in the end, she is always about Will, always loved him.
