Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Full Movie Reaction)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Full Movie Reaction)

Comments

Hey guys I doubt you'll see this but FUN FACT!! The prophesy spoke of a boy born in July that will vanquish voldy. Harry was born in July, but do you know who else was? Neville! Voldemort chose the child he presumed to be the greatest threat and he chose Harry. Neville could have been the chosen one. Neville could have lost both of his parents, while Harry's would have been tortured like the Longbottoms. ALSO voldy is a pure-blood supremacist but he chose Harry, the Half-Blood. Neville, however, is a Pure-Blood! Voldy himself is a Half-Blood. Just an interesting little factoid that brings up more questions

kevin

Just want to say as someone who has watched the youtube version of this, you do a great job editing and making sure you dont leave out any good parts from the YT version

EatMyMittenz

Agreed! My impulsive self bought a digital copy of the The Witch so I could watch the full-length along with them, before realizing that was before they had Patreon 😅 I love the movie either way so the purchase won't go to waste

Kassandra Conley

You are absolutely correct on that one :) The same goes for the other two unforgivable curses as well. You either have to dodge them or somehow skillfully block them with a physical object. Part of why they eventually became unforgivable! Now I want to re-read the books!

Kassandra Conley

Absolutely! We are looking forward to playing it!!

Reel Review HQ

Hey friends! Any chance, once you finish the Harry Potter movies, you would consider playing and streaming Hogwarts Legacy for us? It's SUCH a fun game and while it takes place the prior century, there's still lots of easter eggs and I'd love to see what you both think of it :)

Kassandra Conley

haven't read the books in a while but I think I remember the reason that a spell like "avada kedavra" is unforgivable but a spell like reducto isn't. The killing curse is something that can't be deflected with magic, you either have to physically get out of the way or you're dead. Reducto, on the other hand, is something that you can cast a shield against

Amanda Lofter

It's sad we don't have the rest of your full reactions, but I'm just greatful that we have full reactions for this film and The Batman.

The Outlaw Cad Bane

The cleverness of all the magical stuff in their world is the thing I loved most about the Fantasic Beasts films. They have their issues, but it was just so cool seeing so many creative ideas come to life, in a way they only can in the Harry Potter universe. They definitely kept the magic alive, if nothing else.

Turnt SNACO

the only thing i didn't like about this movie was the score and all the "enter stage left" moments.

xris037

I mean, Cho was also kinda only dating Harry because she wanted to hear about Cedric. Taking him to places Cedric used to take her and clearly wanting to be elsewhere.

Sarah

Fully. Agree. Rickman is why people like Snape. Snape is not a likable character in the books. Snape literally does bully children. And, yeah, Snape legit calls Lily a mudblood in the books! That's why James bullies him. And I HATE that they chose to show this, but not the 'trick' Sirius played on Snape by nearly getting him murdered by werewolf Lupin only for JAMES to save him! James isn't perfect. Sirius isn't perfect. But as Sirius says here, "we've all got light and darkness, it's the part we choose to act on".

Sarah

I just got your Patreon and I’m so happy you guys do the movie On the screen !! You guys are amazing !

Nani

Goblet of Fire is my favorite, but the 3rd act of Order of the Phoenix is really kickass! This is the beginning of Serious Potter. Life or Death Potter. All Grown Up Potter.

Calvin Graves

You guys made my day by posting this and I haven't even seen it yet. Was looking forward to your reaction to what is arguably the most cohesive and unifying and overall best film of the franchise with some light moments I think you'll enjoy. Can't wait to see your reactions to the remainder of the franchise.

Nick Mitchell

In regards to James being a bully:James bullied a blood supremacist who already hung out with Death Eaters in school, and that while he was a teenager. Snape is an adult who bullies children he is supposed to protect. Nothing will justify that. I know in the movies they don't show it that much, and Alan Rickman is extremely likable, but he is terrible (although a great character). (Also, he didn’t really help Harry with Occlumency, even though Dumbledore said that would be the most important, just because he had petty hatred against James, Sirius, and because of them, Harry. )

Paula

Loved this reaction so much!! PLEASE tell me we do not have to wait long for the next one *insert prayer hands here*

Jess The Fox

Everyone is listing their patronuses, and I want to be one of the cool kids, but alas. . . my patronus is a field mouse. And I even cheated to take the test a second time, giving different answers on a different account, and got the same result. It was rather disappointing, but funny. A genuinely sad thing about Harry's reaction to Sirius's death: if it seemed painfully real and visceral, that's because it was. One of Daniel Radcliffe's grandparents had just died, and he used that grief to fuel his performance. The reason they muted his scream is because it was so painful to hear that it brought several cast members to tears on set, and it was deemed too intense for the target audience of young people.

Jessie Nebulous

Guys thanks so much for the full movie! Yall are making it a lot easier for us! Jacob and Will as Godson and Godfather are the realistic parallel to Harry and Sirius. Jacob with the glasses and Will with the luscious hair. Coincidence? I think not! lol btw my daughter’s middle name is Luna partly because of Luna Lovegood and because she was born at night during a full moon! I love Luna’s character. She’s so unbothered by everyone’s perception of her. She’s uniquely her and I love her for that!

Gladee

Sirius is one of my favorite characters and his death hit me the hardest. Because it happens so fast and there is so much action that follows, some reactors don’t really feel the loss the way you guys did, and I appreciate that you did.

kaj

I love this reference! :D When I was originally diagnosed as having Lupus, I had a good laugh about House being wrong. A few years later, when I was re-diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease instead (similar to Lupus, but much rarer) I had an even bigger laugh about House being right.

Jessie Nebulous

"Lupin, not Lupus." Me: It's NEVER Lupus.

Beqi Majors

My patronus is an otter 🦦 I like Melbourne Breakfast tea with one sugar and splash of milk in a tea cup, not mug ☕️

Angie-Lu

Last one I promise: the scene where Harry is mentally fighting Voldemort, what actually makes him leave Harry’s body is Harry actually looked forward to dying, so that he could be reunited with Sirius. Voldemort couldn’t stand it and left his body/mind. Harry’s dad, along with lupin Sirius and Peter, bullied Snape. Lupin tried to avoid being involved but never spoke up either hence why Snape doesn’t like him either. The fact that Harry’s dad was a bully, really troubled Harry and made him question his father and Sirius’ characters. Snape has more reasons to hate James that will be revealed in later films, but the bullying lead to other events eventually to him becoming a death eater as mentioned in the fourth film

Angie-Lu

Sad book fact: Sirius gave Harry a gift for Christmas but Harry never opened it. When he had the vision of Sirius being tortured, he actually managed to get a hold of the order/12 Grimmauld place but it was Kreacher who answered the fireplace. He lied and said Sirius wasn’t home which confirmed to Harry the vision was true. But what really happened was that Sirius was home, he was just tending to buckbeak upstairs. Kreacher lied because he favoured the other black member, Bellatrix, because Sirius was really mean to Kreacher. Dumbledore and Hermione kept telling them to be kinder to the elves regardless and it backfired in this instance. At the end of the book Harry goes through his bag and finds the gift Sirius got him was broken. It was a mirror. Sirius wrote that it was a two way mirror, a way for them to speak to each other, that he and his dad used to use. If Harry had opened the gift, he would have been able to contact Sirius instead of using the fireplace. The order came to the department of mysteries to help because Snape actually did go to get help when Harry said “he’s got padfoot at the place where it’s hidden”

Angie-Lu

And one more HAHA Umbridge is the one who sent the dementors to Harry in the beginning. She also has dual with Hagrid and Minerva. It was horrible in the books. I don’t remember the details but the students could see from the astrology tower. This was when dumbledore was gone from Hogwarts.

Angie-Lu

Another book fact that isn’t gone into much is that Bellatrix and Barty Crouch Jnr tortured Neville’s parents with the cruiciatus curse to the point they became mentally ill/insane (hence why Sirius says it’s a fate worse than death) They reside in a wizard hospital (St Mungo’s) where Neville would visit them with his grandma. Ron, Hermione and Harry see him visiting his parents when they’re at the hospital to see Ron’s dad. Glideroy Lockhart also resides at the hospital in the same ward as Neville’s parents because of the memory charm that backfired in the second film.

Angie-Lu

Book fact: Hermione got them to sign their names on the paper for “dumbledores army” because she jinxed it. Anyone who snitched or revealed it would have the word “sneak” written on their face in blisters/boils. Cho’s friend never wanted to join but Cho asked her to. Her mum though was being interrogated at the ministry so she told umbridge and she had her face covered in the blisters spelling the word. Harry argued with Cho about her friends betrayal and Cho took her friends side which leads to their break up (she was also really jealous of Hermione). Hermione also jinxed galleons (gold wizard coins) so that when they decided on a time and place to practice, it was warm up and reveal the location/time for the DA member who had the coin.

Angie-Lu

Anyone else have an occamy patronus?

The Harry Potter reactions have to be the highlight of every month! Loved this one so much! The next one is my absolute FAVORITE but it's very hit or miss just like Goblet of Fire is for most! Super psyched to see your reactions to the rest of the series. Also, having the movie on screen was SUPER nice, due to delay issues with Patreon every movie is 0.25 faster than here so I would have to pause a lot but being able to chill and watch was great!

Mooki

You guys are so awesome, I hope this series inspires you guys to read the books, or even listen to the famous audiobooks, either narrated by Stephen Fry or Jim Dale. I appreciate you guys!

Primary Alternate

I knew you guys were going to like this one, and that you'd appreciate Umbridge's villainy. She is the most memorable villain of the series, and that's saying something when Voldemort is right there I love this movie- the way it's paced, the way it's shot, the way it's written, and how there doesn't feel like any wasted footage. It all contributes to a cohesively told story that doesn't dilly dally or wander I know many fans of the book feel differently about this movie, but I think it does just about the best it can given the enormity of the source material it had to work with (book 5 was the longest of the series, at 870 pages). You guys mention the whimsy slowly leaving each film, I think one of the ways they achieve this is by featuring Hagrid less. He was so pivotal in those first two films as Harry's guide and guardian; the one who rescued him from the Dursleys and introduced him to the wizarding world. To showcase him less seems like it correlates to a direct decline in whimsy (as demonstrated in the line graph behind me) I'm glad you guys included us on this journey with you, you've been a blast to watch. And your chemistry is killer, it comes so easy, which is a real delight to watch Looking forward to finishing out this series with y'all! (My personal ranking- 3, 5, 7, 1, 4, 2, 6)

Fiona Fleming

can’t ever decide between this and 6! both are amazing

gabby

I drink my (usually vanilla chai) tea with three teaspoons of cane sugar and whatever flavored creamer I have at the time. I wish I could be one of those cool people who drink tea without creamer and sugar but my tastebuds will not allow it 🥲

Murder_of__crows

Love this series, and your great reactions. Happy to be along for the ride. Great not to have to “watch along” too

Jan T

loving the new format guys! also (and please, any more avid book readers correct me of i’m wrong), but i believe in the book it’s mentioned that dudley didn’t really have any bad memories of himself for the dementors to feed off of, so he basically just saw all the times he had bullied harry over the years. this could also just be a fan theory that bled over into my knowledge of the book lol

luca

Omg ive been waiting for this, both since the last one dropped and all work day lol. I agree with both of your rankings. This one has always ranked super high for me. This one never gets old no matter how many times I watch it. I know we have some waiting for the next one..but hopefully not TOO long ? ?

Jenna Antonelli

Glad you enjoyed

alexajar

idk if i can wait 3-4 weeks for the next one.... these reactions are too good.

Carter Rowe

You can answer my question now! Who would you rather be held captive by: Voldemort, Umbridge or Bellatrix. You guys picked Bellatrix with no context other than looks so now I’m keen to know 😆

Angie-Lu

I wanted to give a little context to the prophecy, as it's not fully explained in this or any of the following movies. First of all, they do trim the prophecy for the movies. The whole prophecy is: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives." So Harry, who was born at the end of July, is who Voldemort targets as being 'the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord', but he isn't actually the only baby who was born at the end of July whose parents defied Voldemort on three separate occasions. The other baby, born just a day before Harry? Neville Longbottom. So why is it Harry, and not Neville, who is the 'Chosen One'? Well, that was all on Voldemort. He chose to 'mark' Harry as his equal. He chose the potential means of his own destruction because he decided that the child of James and Lily Potter, who is a half-blood just like Voldemort himself, was more of an equal to him than the pure-blood Neville Longbottom.

Desiree Mclaughlin

All of this. I think they soften Sirius in the movies for a couple of reasons, but especially because there is only so much screen time/development you can give his character and if you make him too unsympathetic it doesn't feel as devastating when he's taken away. And I think you're right that Gary Oldman's performance plays a big role in why people connect with that character. I wish the movies did a better job explaining Neville's backstory, and I say this as someone who appreciates how difficult it is to adapt 500+ page books into 2-2.5 hour movies. Sirius does say that they 'suffered a fate worse than death', but I feel like that's missed by a lot of people who haven't read the books. Also, just because they suffered a fate worse than death doesn't mean that they are necessarily still alive.

Desiree Mclaughlin

I love love Luna. She’s my favorite! This is one of my favorite Harry Potter movies too. RIP Sirius.

Michelle Thorpe

The first 2 movies kinda share the same purpose that the Shire scenes had in the Lord of the Rings. As the movies gets darker you have it in the back of your mind how great the world was before everything got so dire and it make you want to get that back. As Sam said, "there is some good in this world and it's worth fighting for."

Keira Hansen

Milk and two sugars! But it also depends on the tea! Only dark tea needs milk!

Ileana Leon-Shirley

Cool, thank you so much! Watching this part with you was fun! It's one of my favorite books and films because so much happens. And I like the aspect of politics and education and all the propaganda through the press etc. It all feels much more adult... The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort is really epic. The fight scenes with the Order and the Deatheaters in general are great. Sirius was not only portrayed in a positive light in the books. Of course, he was Harry's godfather and loved him, but the books also showed a different side to him. He was very bitter and started drinking because he couldn't go out in public and Dumbledore didn't give him any exciting tasks. Towards the end, he becomes increasingly reckless and tries to push Harry and himself into irresponsible decisions. It is also discussed that Harry was only a substitute for James and that Sirius saw him more as a friend than his godson. I think a lot of fans like him because Garry Oldman gives him a much cooler image in the films. It's not that I don't like his character, I'm just saying that he wasn't as perfect in the book as he comes across in the film. And what is perhaps also misleading and not clarified in the films: Neville's parents aren't actually dead. Bellatrix tortured them and they have been hospitalized with severe psychological damage ever since. Neville visits them regularly together with his grandmother. They recognize him as their son, but they can't properly communicate with him.
