Goblin Queen - Cloak

I have had a few people asking how I made her spiky hemmed cloak, and it is super easy!!
Cloaks are one of my favourite pieces to make as they are always dramatic and fun to wear and come in endless shapes and sizes. A simple method I use is the 'Bias' method.
This is where you get your fabric, lay it out, cut the corner off so you are left with your desired length (this will go around your neck, I made mine to sit just on the shoulders and attacked the ends with elastic and a button). It is called the 'bias' method as now the length of the cloak is the bias of the fabric. (The cross point where the warp and weave yarns meet) This will give the cloak a beautiful drape.
I did the same to my lining fabric and pinned it underneath the face ( I used 100% black linen for the fave and a nice shiny red acetate lining)
I then pin paper to the hem and free hand the spikes to give them that really organic look.
Then I pin on the inside of that drawing and cut away the outside so I'm left with my pattern. I draw around that onto my fabric using a metallic pen so it shows up on the black fabric. Move the pins from the pattern to the fabric. Then I just sewed along the line I drew.
Grade and clip the seams and turn inside out, press flat and it's done! To finish the neck line you can go as fancy as you like. I knew I wouldn't see it under all the other cakes and collars so I just over locked and stitched it over to keep the bulk down as much as possible.
