The final of Marve's friends: Pål! If you figured out the naming scheme, I'd love to hear it.
Pål's more aloof and slightly meaner personality immediately made me think of badgers for some reason. Plus, I just really like their fur patterns! Their distinct look made designing a badger character simultaniously really easy and really difficult. It was easy to make designs I liked, but hard to find the one that felt right.
As with the others, I got really stuck on colours. I felt the obvious choice was for him to be mostly just black, white and grey. But that felt boring, so I tried experimenting with some less obvious options. I still haven't found quite the right look here either, but that's also not the most important aspect for me. So, once again, please feel free to make your own headcanon!
What's most important to me is how he looks in black and white, and this was an opportunity for me to really try pushing myself. I've been afraid to give characters too many pure black areas, because they can more easily cause visual confusion when different black areas overlap with each other. At the same time, I've wanted to avoid using too many different shades of grey. But drawing pages with Pål in them have really shown me just how much you can get away with!
Lastly, I really wanted his shirt to say Grevling - the Norwegian word for badger - like it's some kind of band T-shirt. I think I added this in exactly one page before deciding it was annoying to include lol, so I haven't bothered having it there in most of the pages.
