This weekend brought the Seattle Erotic Arts Festival, and my 3rd year working (but first year in the role of Volunteer Director!). This year was especially special not only because it was the 15th annual SEAF, but because for the first time an image of me was accepted into the festival. What's more, it sold before the festival even opened to the public! Combo bonus: It was purchased by one of the literary artists (which is how he got early access) who is going to put it in his library opposite a portrait by Jim Duvall. I'm so incredibly honored on multiple levels.
Working the festival was an exhausting but rewarding experience. I always love doing it even though by the end of the third day my eyes are glazed over from staring at names on the spreadsheet. But this was probably the best-staffed festival in the time I've been working for them and while there's always some rough spots (one poor volunteer ended up signing themselves up for 8 straight hours in the VIP lounge and had a major sugar crash after all was said and done), but nothing that wasn't a solvable problem. I love working with SEAF and all the amazing, inspirational artists that I get to see as well as all the fantastic people whose hands I get to shake that work hard all over this city. It made me want to create (more) art, it made me wish I was better at networking. More than anything, it was a great but gentle boot in the pants to get to work creating amazing things. <3
