So there is a Pokestop that I can hit from my office during the day. Pokestops reset every 5 minutes, so I have started setting a five minute timer on my browser. This has an unforeseen side effect where, because I have to stop what I'm doing and change tabs to turn it off, it pulls me out of a lot of distracting behavior. Scrolling mindlessly on facebook? Can't do it for more than 5 minutes before I have to do a thing and then remember to be productive. As someone who often has multiple tabs open (right now I count 7) and goes down the line of doing a thing in each tab in a cycle, this helps me break out of bad habits but also isn't so much of a distraction that I'm completely pulled out of the zone for important things - writing a script for ECHO's skit in the next Cabaret of Evil (oops, did I mention that surprise?) when the alarm goes off? No big thing, just collect my shit and 50 XP, reset the timer, and I'm back to writing in under a minute. If anything, it gives my brain a break to refresh. I'm sure somewhere there's some study about how this is a good idea, but more than anything I just wanna say "Suck it" to everyone who's mad about Pokemon Go.
