Let's talk about polls

Hey! I would like to clarify a couple things and ask your input. Anyone is welcome to weigh in!

So, Hiro (Big Hero 6) won the most recent poll. But it was VERY close, and it highlighted some problems.

1) Too many options. I will have to cull how many suggestions are allowed before launching a poll. How many do you think would be fair?

2) It seems not everyone knows that you can and are welcome to vote for several different characters. Please feel free to do so.

3) I am thinking of making a "second round" of polls with the top few (2? 3? 4?) performers from the first round being the only choices, and each person only having one vote in the second round.

All of this would apply starting with the next poll, so we have a few days before then. Let me know what you think! If you have more suggestions to make the polls more fun and interesting, leave a comment =D

You could randomize it to avoid the choosing and the bias etc, like use random.org to reduce 10 down to 6 based on a number draw or something

Most people have shared the same sentiment already- I definetely get not wanting to limit the # of options people submit, but consider your own sanity! Another option could be to start by only polling higher tier patreons to get a list of 5-8 people, then open THAT list to the wider supporters and see who wins.

I supposed I can't have a good idea of what it is to be "on the other side" of the Patreon, since I'm dedicated to this - I guess you're right, asking people to come back for a second round might be too much xD But I don't know if I'd feel comfortable being the person choosing which suggestions go in the polls and which ones are rejected, ya know?

Kwa

Alright, thank you very much for your input <3

I think counting on people to weigh in on two rounds of polls might be too much. I think limiting to ~6 choices in one round of polling is sufficient, which counts on you to whittle down suggestions based on (1) things you'd prefer to draw and (2) things you haven't recently drawn, for diversity

Paul

Yes, I think it's only necessary in case of a tie or if there's a difference of one or two votes. This so that those who voted for the most popular character are satisfied, because if the winner has a difference of 3 votes or more it would not be fair for him to lose in a second round

Thanks for your input! You think that the second round should only be kept in case of a tie, and not as the default to ensure that the audience's real favorite comes out? This time it was close, but it was not "one vote close" between Hiro and Eren. I was thinking that if we did a second round between these two, Eren might have won.

Kwa

I think the first ten suggestions are enough, unless there is one that several people suggest. If at the end of the voting there is a tie or the margin between the winner and the other two places is one vote, another round could be done.
