The Kingswood Amelioration - Chapter 28

Comments

You've guessed so many things correctly that I'm beginning to think you are psychic. Congrats!

Rich

I think that was probably Josh's hottest scene in the entire series. Our little Joshie is growing up!

I'm still thinking Nicky might do better than he expects on the mock GCSEs. And I'm also hoping Gray will learn about what his father did., if not from Nicky, then from confronting his dad himself. It could ultimately be a good thing for everyone involved. I'm also happy with the Blane/Levi solution. Levi is indeed an amazing floor master; Blane will be learning from the best. Now if Levi and Danny can just figure out how to help Avery with his brother situation, I will be happy. Danny has taken the first steps to resolving the issues causing his most recent bout of stress/depression. His conversation with Mr. Darby cleared the air there, and it was nice getting to see a bit more of a teacher that is rarely given a spotlight. I was happy to see Danny reach out to Finn. Finn knows how to get Danny to open up; with Danny finally texting him, we may see good things happen there soon. Finn is my favorite of the older Smith siblings, which is odd considering I rarely fall for the straight guy. Well, I fell for Charlie at King Edwards, too, so maybe it happens more often than I think. I think Josh made real progress in this chapter. And we got to see the seductive side of Josh in this one. Mark stood no chance - Josh was quite persuasive. I'm always happy when I see a mention of Jesse in the story. Just think, we could be reading about a totally different Danny without him having had Jesse in his life that first year at Kingswood. For a character we only saw for one year, his influence was huge. It just goes to show we should never underestimate the power we we have to change people's lives. Everyone needs a Jesse in their life. Rob is another character who has really grown on me over the years at Kingswood. He is really coming into his own this year. And I agree, Mark's pronouns joke was great. It's been fun to watch him bloom as well.

Before this chapter, I thought Nicky would do well in the GCSE mock exams, but that's relative. I meant it in comparison to the grades he usually gets and it seems Nicky's expectations were too high for how late he started to focus on studying. Those high expectations he couldn't meet resulted in the pressure he put on himself because of Gray's father, which previously acted as motivation, work against him once he saw he couldn't do as well as he wanted. This then led to the whole studying through the night thing, which just made his performance worse than if he had sleep a full night. Now that Gray caught Nicky mentioning his father, I hope Nicky will actually tell him the whole truth, Gray would rather know, even if it will hurt. I'm very happy about the resolution of the Levy and Blane situation. All the drama would have been avoided if Danny hadn't overheard them, but I still think Danny knowing made telling Chris inevitable. And they should have waited for confirmation before freaking out, but it's human nature. I really like the rare scene from the perspective of teachers, and now we know why Blane was interested in knowing about the stuff Levy deals with as a floor master. I'm curious to see how Blane does in that role. It's a shame he will only be our boys' floor masters for half a year, but I'll take that and he won't disappear after that. The school being willing to do construction just to keep Levy and Blane shows how much they value them. In other Smith family matters, Danny finally texted Finn, let's see how he reacts to being ignored for weeks. And at least this is a start of Danny dealing with one his issues that have brought back the depression. The way this came up was unexpected, but very nice. Danny would not have been as harshly direct, and even rude, towards a teacher if it wasn't for his depression. I feel like there's a filter that's removed when by the depression and he stops caring about the consequences of his words. But it somehow worked out very well, both of them were able to see where the other was coming from and Mr. Darby learned some important things about Danny. Also yay for the Jesse mention, that speech he gave to a year 7 Danny was amazing. Josh practicing to be better at bottoming because he noticed Mark gets embarrassed about bottoming to a much smaller guy is nice and thoughtful. Plus it led to a conversation about the reason Mark broke up with him. It was important for Josh to learn the full extent of it, the consequences the jealousy was having, because they were the real reason for the break up. If they're going to get back together at some point, Josh needed to understand this. And, as much as he's sometimes the most childish of the group, he can also be very mature other times, so I think he understands the impact well. Now, with what's been going on and them rejoining the beds, I think they'll start dating again soon and Josh will be a better boyfriend. What the guys were doing to Rob was kind of bad, but it was funny and it seems fine because it was made clear that Rob knows he could have stopped it if he really wanted it. Then there's the reveal of the source of Chris' headaches. When he said it's really bad, I actually thought it wouldn't be too cancer levels of bad or he would have just said it straight away. I thought it would be a mental thing because he didn't get headaches at home, but that was a nice subversion, him needing glasses explains that well. Good thing he went to Doctor Arkwright, now Danny needs to go too. Mark's pronouns joke as a reply to David counting the days until the GCSEs was hilarious. But I also did the math, the GCSEs start on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Davide

Wow Josh enjoying himself in front of Mark is so hot, they make progress now and i hope soon they get back together

Mr Luigi

A ha! Kingswood's offer! I'm so happy that I guessed it right AGAIN!! And I'm also happy that Gray would finally get the truth from Nicky...... Right, Matt? Right?

Johnny Kape

I'll talk more later, but I'm excited that Levy and Blane will stay and they even found a solution that allows Levy to remain floor master. Plus Blane as a floor master should be fun, it's a shame he'll only be in charge of our group for half a book.

Davide

Another great chapter! Happy to learn the cause of Chris's headaches. So much more to talk about, but I'll wait until more have read the chapter.
