If it helps you feel a little less pain here, know that Sam isn't like that and that Finn has his fair share of blame in their break-up. Their situation isn't one-sided and although Finn is hurt - and legitimately so - Sam is too. Also, Finn wanting to go back to him is much less about Sam than it is about Finn not knowing who he is without him because he defines himself by the people around him instead of by who he is. That's why him wanting to be "good" is linked to him getting back with Sam in his mind. I don't wanna spoil the rest of the episode, but give it some time. I think you'll find that there's more nuance to their relationship than it appears. And thank you for sharing all this ❤

2025-04-11 17:43:23 +0000 UTCOh gawd… the new/younger Sam design looks just like my narcissistic sociopath ex who also made me think that everything was actually my fault when he was really the evil bastard responsible for my life blowing up, losing my best friends, my business, the home I’d spent years renovating and personalizing and so much other shit that took me YEARS to unpack and heal from… (it also took years to even discover all of the stuff he did and I just learned of something new last year, twenty years later, and I thought it couldn’t get worse than embezzling tens of thousands of dollars, cheating on me with our 17 year old employee,when he was 26, or stealing from a non-profit and causing their collapse, which resulted in the organizer becoming homeless… but it turns out he actually managed to top that) Anyway… I had such a visceral reaction to Finn blaming himself in that last panel and I knew it felt personal but I was trying to figure out why it was affecting me quite so much because, sure it was kinda personal but it’s been so long that I can empathize with a kid feeling that way but it’s not like *personal* personal anymore… then I scrolled back over and seeing Sam again after finishing the full page hit me totally different cuz the first time it was Sam but the second time it’s was HIM… All that to say… you did a very good job capturing the very real internal conflict and cognitive dissonance that can happen after the end of a relationship and how you can be convinced that you’re 100% at fault in a situation where you’re, at most, carrying equal blame, or even almost wholly blameless… and the desperation of wanting them back even after enough time has passed that you really should have started to figure out that your perception wasn’t really in harmony with reality… I never really liked Sam to begin with, and how quickly he and Cliff clicked was a major red flag back in Red Menace times, but this one image of him looking like a 20-something version of my ex just turned him into the true villain in Finn’s hero journey for me I also love that Sean is just being supportive and being THERE for him and not pushing or trying to vilify Sam or convince Finn of anything so Finn can work through things in his own… Ok… therapy session done 🤣
