Bara Style Challenge - Bearly Danny
Added 2023-11-27 15:00:05 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure you know Bearly Danny by now. If not, you've most likely at least seen his art around. His style is very very recognizable and iconic. I chose to reproduce the black and white (with hints of pink) style of his comics because I feel like it's what he's most known for, but he also makes fully colored illustrations. His comic is very slice-of-life with a generous helping of humor and drama, and of course, plenty of sexy fun.
This one was fairly challenging because I had to hold back on muscle definition. A lot of the characters in the Bearly Danny comic are more bear-ish, but also the general style is soft with thin subtle linework here and there. It made me realize that I have a subconscious urge to draw every single muscle on characters who aren't always intended to have that much definition (like Finn's abs which aren't supposed to look like a full-on 6-pack) so it feels like I'm already learning a lot from this exercise. The hatching and body hair weren't as bad to draw as I thought, but I would never have the patience to do a whole comic drawing body hair that way.
My respect for Bearly Danny has grown even more through this exercise.

Would he even?" It also makes me realize that I'm perhaps a bit too heavy-handed with the details sometimes.
