In the original rainbow flag design from 1978, the eighth and last stripe was violet and it was meant to represent spirit.
As the model for violet, Jade stands for putting your foot down and saying "no, that's not gonna fly" when faced with bigotry, she stands for fighting back when the need arises. For her, Pride is about finding the balance between being grateful for the progress that's already been made, but also addressing the progress that still needs to be made. It's important to understand the past if we wanna make our best hopes for the future come true.
So violet stands for spirit, yes, but more importantly, it stands for fighting for what's right, fighting for the right to exist, and fighting for the right to be safe, happy, and have dignity. It means that you need to know your worth and stand up for yourself, but also stand up for others in your community who need your strength and spirit to do so.
