Monthly Update and Poll Results

Another month has gone by and it's once again time for the monthly update and poll results. Edit: Forgot to take out the part I wrote before when I was thinking of writing the whole post and scheduling it to come out on the 1st, instead of waiting until I moved. :clown: Anyway, here's the poll results.

Poll Results -

In terms of raw votes, goth girl demoness won by a landslide, but with weights, it was incredibly close. So close that if I had made the post before I moved a couple days before the poll ended instead of now, I would have called it wrong.

But with just one more vote, the Goth Girl Demoness ended up winning.

Her name in game will be Hitomi. I'll talk more about her in her character intro later this month. I hope you look forward to the finished art!

Monthly Update -

And now on to the monthly update.

I've revised the character plans for v0.2 now that Random women are being included. It looks like this now.

Shizuka - 2 art posts (character CG done)

Ms. Tyler - 2 art posts (part of the MMC storyline)

1 Random Woman - 2 art posts

Ms. Hartley - New character CG and existing scene reworked (done and ready to be put in game, replaced the one-off woman)

21 out of 34 Done

Schedule for v0.2 -

You probably noticed that all of the plans are now lumped together instead of separated by iterative update and big update. Instead of having a normal August update, I've decided to make the next update v0.2. Mainly to get it out faster. Combined with the new posting schedule, it will just be a lot easier and faster for me to just work until v0.2 is done. Since I can work on anything in any order rather than having to worry about implementing specific characters or systems and don't have to spend all of the time testing multiple versions and making multiple posts. I really greatly underestimated how long testing, posting, and updating the game so frequently takes.

On top of all of that, I'd really like the game to actually start. Up until now, it's been mostly a proof of concept build. Just something to show the basic idea. I want there to be some more story type of content in the game so it can move past the proof of concept stage. With the lab storyline started, I can also start implementing the rare women. Once the main storyline is in the game, updates will be basically all just be adding to it and other parts of the game until the current areas are complete. I want to get to that stage as quickly as possible.

The goal is to have v0.2 released into early access by the end of August, but I definitely can't promise anything. For one, I desperately need a job and have started applying to jobs en masse and have started working on multiple projects. As of writing this, I have less than $30. So I've started applying for anything.

Plans Moving Forward -

Speaking of working on multiple projects, I've now been developing Waifu Wonderland for 8 months, and had a public release for 3 months, with 3 total releases. And unfortunately, the game hasn't been getting much support. As of writing, the game makes $23 a month, and has made a total of about $60. I greatly appreciate the support the game has gotten and everyone who has played the game. The number of plays/downloads the game has gotten is well over 50,000 now, which is more than Holiday, Teach Me, and A Perfect Ten combined. This has really helped to keep me motivated to keep working on the game and why I've been working on the game for 40-50+ hours a week almost every week since release and why I've worked almost every single day since the initial release as well. The only exceptions being the day dawntrail released and the past few days I've been moving. But like I mentioned above, the game just isn't getting much financial support and I really need money. So I'm having to cut down on how much I'm working on Waifu Wonderland. The patreon schedule will stay unchanged. I'll be posting something every week still. I'm just having to scale back how much I work on the game from working full time or more each week, to one or maybe two days a week. The biggest thing that's happening, is that I'll be cutting planned content to get the game out on roughly the same schedule so I can get it onto steam as quickly as possible.

As for what I'm cutting, it's mostly unannounced content. I'm just scaling things back a bit. Like I was planning on having at least 10 characters in the initial part of the lab storyline including the scientist, but I'm cutting that down to 6 now (Almiranda, Freya, Skadi, Hitomi, the scientist, and then 1 more). I was planning on doing an "evil fairy" inspired by Maleficent, a cat girl, an amazoness inspired "big" design, and a water nymph/mermaid inspired design just without the fish half). Now I'll just be using one of these. Probably the cat girl, because it's the safest and one most people will be into.

I'll also be scaling back the hospital area. I was originally going to have 3 unique nurses and a doctor, with one of the nurses being available while off work, but I'll be instead changing it to a "random" nurse and then the one doctor.

I'll also be scaling back the apartments and neighborhood areas. I originally wanted every apartment and house to have at least one seduceable person in them, with many planned to have two, but I'll be cutting out a lot of these. For the apartment area, your direct neighbors, a single mother and her daughter, will still be included and have a little storyline. Otherwise, I'll be keeping apartments locked and/or including a specific "random" character in one, like I did with the goth girl random skank.

Then for the neighborhood, I'll be just keeping a few of the houses locked. I had considered making a random character in them as well, but that just doesn't make any sense to me. This is the neighborhood that the MC was meant to have grown up in, it makes no sense that there would be a "random" person they don't at least know in passing.

Then finally, I'll be scaling back the office area. I'll still be including the first tier of the office job, but there wont be a story attached like I had wanted, and you'll just have "random" office ladies. I'm planning on making these a bit more varied than other random characters to make up for it. Stuff like having different hairstyles, maybe different length skirts, stuff like that.

Of course, this is all just to get the game on steam and is under the assumption that the game wont hit the support goal I outlined in last month's update. If the game is successful on steam and/or if the game starts getting more support and hits the support goal, I'll definitely be going back and adding in the content that was originally planned.

I really enjoy working on Waifu Wonderland and it seems like people are enjoying it, but I just can't keep working 40-50+ hours a week on it.

Oh yeah, I'm also cutting down the number of collectables in the game. I'll just be including one or two more sets (depending on how big they are). I've also gotten some reports of some collectables showing up twice and some not appearing at all, so when I add in the next set, I'll be deleting all of the existing collectables and placing them again. Just to be sure I get them all this time. I'll also be making a collectable guide that I'll be making available on Itch for people who donate to the game. I'll probably be posting it here as well for the tier that matches whatever I decide to list it as on Itch.

If you're interested the other stuff I've been working on, I've been doing 3D goth girl edits of characters and posting renders on my twitter (link on the front page). So far I've done GB's thicc Mercy, Tracer, 2B, Rouge, Black Cat, Mary Jane, and Scarlet. As well as some natural goth girls including Maddie and Goth Mom. Come on by if you're into that. I've been taking 3D commissions as well. It's just renders right now because my computer just cannot handle animation in Blender. Because this is my computer.

It's super old and falling apart lol. I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade once I get a job and everything so I can start doing 3D animations again.

Anyway, just wanted to be upfront about what was going on with the project. Just to be clear, I am NOT abandoning Waifu Wonderland. I am 100% committed to getting a build finished enough to be out on steam. I'm just not going to be working on it full time anymore and scaled it back a little bit to compensate. I'm still hoping to get v0.2 out into early access by the end of the month as well. To do that, I may end up cutting the other planned random character in the roadmap. It just depends on how much is done by the time I get to the last week of the month.

It's over -

And that's it for this month's update! The next character will be the first pregnancy character that will be announced next week, then I'll start working on the full artwork for Hitomi. There's currently an opinion poll going until August 16th. This is just to see who everyone's favorite character is so far, so I can plan on what to add for the v0.3 cycle. A poll to decide something in game will happen in the second half of the month. It will probably be the first losers poll, where all the losers from previous polls will come back and get a second chance to be added into the game. Next week things will be back to the normal schedule. I hope everyone has enjoyed playing v0.1.3 and it's felt a little less grindy with the addition of the Random Skanks! I hope you look forward to v0.2!
