Updates on hold for a couple of weeks
Added 2024-04-20 17:13:20 +0000 UTCI really wanted to stay on schedule, but I've just got too much going on right now. My final projects are taking a lot more time than I expected and I'm also up for some jobs that have required a lot of extra work just for the interview. Stuff like creating video demonstrations. So unfortunately, I just don't have time for Waifu Wonderland right now, since there aren't any patrons yet.
Two of my final projects are due on the 29th, another is due May 7th, and my last class is a normal one with the final taking place sometime between April 31st and May 7th. So, I'll be done with everything and will be able to focus more time on Waifu Wonderland after that.
I'm going to do my best to get through these projects as quickly as I can and then spend some extra time catching up on Waifu Wonderland. Either way, once finals are done and I've officially graduated, I'll be devoting significantly more time to Waifu Wonderland to make sure v0.1 gets out in May.
Once I graduate, if I get the job I'm currently interviewing for, I'll have at least a couple of months without a job to focus on personal projects and game development. And if I don't, I'll still have time to work on personal projects and game development lol. So here's what my current plans about what I'll be working on, in rough order of importance.
1. Get Waifu Wonderland v0.1 released. This will be #1 by far. I plan on dedicating all of the time I've been spending on school to this until it's completed. That way it for sure releases in May.
2. I have an unfinished practice game I made while learning how to use Twine that I plan on refining into a releaseable game. The base game is done, and so is the story. I've tested it and it works start to finish. I just didn't completely fill it with assets and didn't really balance it. While I did do a fair amount of video editing to make loops and make the animations more cohesive, I used free 3D animations that were released to the public for the art there. So I wont be monetizing it or anything and I'll have direct links to support the animators in the game. It'll also be complete when it's released. So outside of any bugs I missed, it wont be continually updated or anything either. I just want to see what people think of that style of game, to see if I should do something like that in the future with original assets. Since I might make the game I mentioned before, Alien, in this style. I'll talk more about that project later though.
3. Work on some 3D models. I'm primarily an environmental and prop 3D modeler, that's what I've done professionally. So I want to make some models to both sell and can be used in VaM. Like there's no good public bathroom model that I've been able to find yet. The ones I have found have either run like garbage on my PC, or have been a little too gross. So I want to make one that's a bit more optimized that will both run well and be a little more like a normal bathroom. Once it's done I'll be releasing it on my VaM page.
4. 3D animation in Blender. I learned how to animate using a program called 3DS Max, and while I like it a lot, it's a nightmare to import models into. Textures never work and need a lot of editing and rigs don't work in it either, so I have to rig and skin everything myself. Which I am awful at and it takes forever to do in 3DS Max. So I'm going to try and actually learn blender a bit more. There's so many great models that are available for it, so being able to just use them would be nice. I still need to better figure out how lighting works in Eevee and how to properly do physics, so that's the goal. Since my PC isn't great, I want to use Eevee instead of cycles, since cycles can take actual weeks to render on my PC. During which time I can't do anything else.
5. And then there's another game idea that I talked a bit about before that uses VaM for the animations, Alien. This is one I think has a lot of potential, but I want to see how the other projects work out first. The real goal here is to find an audience and be able to make some money so I can keep doing this, instead of having to work a day job full time. So I really like this idea, and want to make it, but I'm also okay just releasing the animations if something else works out first. Like mentioned above, I also want to see how that practice game is received before I keep working on it. Basically making it a Twin game instead of making it an RPG Maker game. Since I don't think I'd be able to sell it on storefronts anyway, since it uses VaM and a lot of established characters. Plus I just really like Twine. It's an engine that's easy to use and makes a lot of sense to me, so I can build basically whatever I want using it. And since it's web based basically anyone should be able to play it. We'll see what happens though. I may just keep it in RPG Maker since a lot of it is already built there.
And with that, I am officially on hiatus. Like I said, it's just until final projects are done. At the longest, the next update will be May 11th, so 3 weeks from now, but I'm hoping that doesn't have to happen and I will be back by May 4th instead.
