Waifu Wonderland Overall Progress Update
Added 2024-01-04 18:59:49 +0000 UTCI decided to go through and start tracking how much I need to do to get to the first release of the game. At first, it was just replacing character CG and scenes, but then I also realized that I'll need to remake sprites. Some may end up being similar enough to their inspiration that they don't need to be replaced, but I'm going to assume that all of them do.
I'm not planning on changing any of the actual game for the first release. I'm going to release it with any problems and incomplete parts that it has, so I can focus on getting a release out. It's still got quite a bit in it, especially for a first release.
So here's a list of everything that needs to be done, and how much is completed.
Current Progress -
Character CG - 4/33
Scenes - 4/43
Sprites - 1/33
Until now, I've been trying to do a character CG, then their scene. Moving forward, I'll probably do character CG, sprite, and then scene. I may also post the sprite with the character CG for fun.
But as you can see, still a lot to go. So far, the only sprite that matches the new design enough to keep in has been Kaori's. All the others still need to be replaced. Luckily those don't take too much time, generally only around an hour.
If you're curious what the sprites in game look like, here's Kaori's sprite sheet.

I like these bigger sprites, rather than the default big head sprites. Even though it would be much faster to just use the sprite creator, I think it's worth the extra effort. To cut down on time, I only do the directions that they can look though. And never do full walking sprites. So few characters need to actually move, so that would just double the time for no real reason. I did duplicate the main character sprite for random people, and also kept the big head sprites for children. That way not everyone in the world is perfectly still.
Changes -
If you read the initial post, you'll probably notice there's two fewer scenes. I decided to cut a couple. Mainly because they were a bit unnecessary, and I decided to change one aspect of the game to save some time. One may be added back in later, but for now, it's been cut.
More Game Info -
You'll be able to hire a prostitute, and you'll essentially get free exp for doing so. Originally, I was going to have each one have different scenes, and have a secret unlockable scene that you get for doing 50 or so scenes with them. But instead, I decided to drop the secret scene, and make all the scenes the same. Mostly to save some time. I'm the only one working on this game right now, and having to do all of the artwork, spritework, area design, coding, and writing is a lot. I'll need to cut unnecessary content when I can. Otherwise, I'll probably only be able to do either maybe one update a year, or have them be very small. With only a couple of scenes being added at a time. So the prostitutes will all have the same scenes, they'll just be different colors to match the character artwork. Which will also largely be the same, just with different skin colors, clothes/makeup color, and maybe a couple of different hairstyles. With different colors for those. The scenes themselves will only show mouth and body, to make it easier to make consistent. In addition to saving a lot of time, I also didn't want people to feel like they had to spend a lot of money on the prostitutes. Since that would make progress through the game a lot slower. So instead, you can just kind of pick your favorite and use them for exp if you want to speed up leveling. With the initial version, there's only going to be one available. They're in the apartment complex, which you only gain access to once you buy an apartment. I thought about moving her out of there, but as of now, there's nothing else in the area. So I wanted to give people at least something for unlocking the apartment in the initial version.
As for what scenes the prostitutes will have, they'll have an HJ, paizuri, and BJ scenes. Then they'll have different "packages" for sex. A basic package, which is missionary. A deluxe package, which is a cowgirl scene. A special scene, which will be a non-standard position. In the current CG, they're sitting with her legs wrapped around you and making out while she grinds on you, but I'm not sure that would work in the new format. So that'll probably be different. Each scene gives more exp, but also costs more.
There's one more piece of content that I decided to cut. Which was going to be the cosplay cafe. If you've played A Perfect Ten, it would have been the same. Basically, you go in and can hire women in cosplay to talk to you. It would function a lot like the prostitutes, where it's essentially free exp that you pay for. I decided to cut this for a couple of reasons. One, it functions largely the same as prostitutes, so it seems a bit pointless. Two, I'm worried about using established characters. I don't want to have any potential problems early on. I may come back in later updates and put the area back in, when there's been a couple of versions. That way the game will at least be out, and with any luck will have some support. So if I do end up having to remove anything that was added, it wont be as much of a waste of time. Since again, right now I'm just trying to get the initial version out as quickly as I can. If I were to have the cosplay cafe, and a company decided to hit me with a DMCA and I had to remove the character(s) after the first release, that would take time away from actual development, have been a waste of a few days, and would result in less content in later versions. Which I don't want to do.
Why not release without all of the artwork? -
I realized that it may be a bit strange to some people why I wouldn't just release the game without the artwork, then add it in over time. There's a couple of reasons. The biggest one, is that the game would be the same for at least 6-8 months. Exalcty the same, except there will be added CG every couple of months.
Schedule Moving Forward -
Lastly, I wanted to talk about the schedule for posts going forward. The goal is to do one character introduction a week, and releasing a new scene every Friday. One poll a month. Then there will be a general progress update like this every month. Sometime within the first week of the month. If I get ahead enough, I'll post multiple characters/scenes a week, but the goal is just one of each. I don't want to overwork myself and I don't want to promise more and then not be able to deliver. My vacation is over in about a week and half, so I'm going to do my best to get ahead enough to be able to keep this one a week schedule. However, this is a lot of work. Just like I may get ahead, I may fall behind and have to skip a week here and there. Until I put together a good schedule and get into a good routine, I wont really know. I'll always let people know if that's happening though.
Tiers Finalized -
That's all for this month's general update. I'll be going "public" with this patreon tomorrow, so from now on, I'll be posting according to the tier descriptions. All of which have been finalized. I've finished up Seika's scene and will be posting it tomorrow for the Maximum Quality and above tiers. Next Friday will be the WIP tier, then the Supah tier the 26th.
I'm now going to stop rambling and get back to working on the next character.
Oh, and new poll should be up sometime next week. I just need to throw together some sketches first.
