Hey there, 👋
how is it going?
Split flap displays, like the ones you used to see at airport terminals and train stations, have attracted me since I was a child. I resonate with the motion of these weird machines, when the information is put together letter by letter or number by number or word by word to form something readable. This tutorial is actually more like a live coding session in which I slowly get my head around the mechanical logic of the split flap display. I had already cracked the puzzle in 2016 and used it to build what I think is a very nice web application (the grid), but I had forgotten exactly how it works. In this video you can watch how I slowly came up with the solution.
I hope you enjoy the session! As always, feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think!
Warm greets,
Tim
