Hey you, ☀️
I hope you are doing great! There was a lot happening on my end in the last weeks and I want update you with this newsletter.
Visiting ITERATIONS 2024 🔥
Last weekend I've visited the ITERATIONS Creative Coding Symposium to see the talks, meet old friends and new people. It was amazing and I've got very inspired. Everything went super smoothly and was so well organized (a massive shoutout to Fabian and the volunteers of Creative Coding Utrecht. The lineup was fantastic, I loved how Vera van de Seyp selected the speakers.
A few takeaways:
People fundamentally question how digital design works and search for new ways
The scene navigates towards the philosophy of Computing within Limits
Friction is progressively becoming an important design philosophy
I think I will write a longer article about the event at some point. I've also planned interviews with a few of the speakers, so stay tuned!
Writing a long chapter for "CodeCrafted" ✍🏻
I've got a really cool project that I am working on right now: I am writing a long chapter about the philosophy and the education of Creative Coding for a book called CodeCrafted, published by Victionary. The publication presents a wide range of flexible visual identities driven by Creative Coding, containing cases by Studio Dumbar, Cotton Design and many more. It will probably be published in Summer 2025.
Project "Hyperlink Garden" 🪴
Maybe you have read the amazing article about Permacomputing by Hannah Gmeiner. Hannah helped including hundreds of hyperlinks into the blog, on timrodenbroeker.de to connect all my blogposts and my courses with each other. That makes navigation between related topics easy and research way more effective. I've had this on my todo list for months, but never found the time. Now Hannah took over that job and I am very thankful for her support.
"Demystify Technology" 💪
I've written a new mission statement for the platform and my teaching. Open for questions, comments and ideas!
That's it for now, I wish you a great weekend!
Warm greets, 🌤️
Tim
