Being an artist
Added 2020-10-14 11:30:14 +0000 UTCIt is mid-week and I had some thoughts on being an artist that I'd like to share.
I'm very self-critical of myself and often I have anxieties of not producing work well enough for posting, or that I might peak and never make artwork as good as I had previous.
Then, I realised today how insidious that mindset is! >:o
I've always been afraid of failure in art, or if you look at it in a different light, failure in anything. This is a hurdle that I've been trying to break recently as it simply is a hinderance to my progression. ,w,
But, failure can be a good thing!
Being open to failure is an opportunity to not only realise our mistakes, but learn something new. Think of it like this: If I deny myself the opportunity to draw sketches in certain angles or in new and different perspectives because of this fear of failure, in the end I come out where I started with no progression.
I think it is part of growing as an artist, or partially being human, that makes us constantly self-doubt ourselves. I say learn to embrace failure in art as a friend and find comfort in the fact that it is part of the process.
If you have any similar thoughts or experiences I'd be keen to hear. c:
