Garden XYZ : Step by Step with walkthrough

He wanted random elements in there to help fortify the chaotic atmosphere. I wanted to do something similar but with my own take. I went with him centered in the middle, surrounded by animals and people that would kind of act as his posse, as if he has his own show or manga, and these are the characters that he encounters.
With a rough, I try to be quick yet precise. I feel like if I am too rough with it, I'll struggle more when it comes down to cleans. Figure out your forms and poses without being too stiff, but without getting too loose either. I played around with many different characters and poses. These were what stuck with me. Don't be afraid to erase over and over again. If the idea aint a great one, it's not worth pursuing.
When I get into doing linework, I find that if I stay away from being too clean, I can get away with some lines out of place, some irregularities and imprecision and it gives me a more organic, almost pencil look. That is further cemented as I use the HB brush from procreate with some minor tweaks. Being free with the finished linework is made easier when the roughs aren't too difficult to decipher.
Satoshi Kon's Opus had 4 colours. Black, red, blue, and white. It was important to keep that in mind. I first went with a red background, but found it not to be what I vibed with. I reversed it, and instead made the background blue-green. On a multiply layer, I added shadows using dark grey and grey. I wanted to keep it simple so i didn't over render.
