Trying to understand light, color and skin - progress

So I've spent quite a lot of time learning, being frustrated over and loving the human anatomy. Last year I took a couple hours every week, over the span of maybe 6 months to get to know the human body, and I could see improvements in my skill almost instantly. I finally came to a point in my artistic journey where I felt I could actually draw the characters and ideas in my mind - and even get them to look right!
Well my friends, this year my learning endeavor is the next step: Taking line art and coloring it in a way that's well.. pretty and believable.
I've been coloring the same pose for 5 sessions now and I think the improvement is quite big :)

I got the idea from the channel Istebrak on Youtube. She hosts and I believe created the '14 Day Challenge' where you draw the same exact thing from the same angle in the same light environment everyday for 14 days straight. When I first got into painting some time around 2018 I did this challenge and it helped me immensely. The great thing about the 14 Day Challenge is Istebrak's super helpful and knowledgeable community which were always ready to write me some feedback notes.

So I am kind of using the 14DC as a guideline for me to learn and understand light and color. On day 1 I was a bit over ambitious and picked a color reference with neon lights, multiple light sources, etc... it's a horrible mess and I didn't bother finishing it.

Day 2 was a lot better, but I realized I pick waay too pick skin tones which make Hinata look like Miss Piggy. We don't want that.

Day 3, I felt I was slowly getting a hang of things. I again used color references and finally realized that *skin is smooth*, therefore, duh I have to blend that bitch a bit more than I did before. And lo and behold, on Day 3 and Day 4 even more so, Hinata finally looks some what real and touchable! :)

I was really excited at this point and felt like I understood a lot better what I was painting.
Today I tried to translate my learnings into a night time scene and .. well I will say, the skin looks nice and smoot and overall this piece is the neatest and tidiest. However picking the right skintone in a dark blue environment threw me off. I find that Hinata looks a bit too purple. I also want to improve the way I draw eyes, and for this will have to do a few texture studies.

Anyway, at this point I am very excited and motivated by the improvement I'm seeing and I hope you enjoy these studies and my rambling :)

Hope yall are having a great day and I thank you so much for your lovely support <3
