Writing Update: 06/01/25

Happy new year, everybody!

Apologies for the delay in sending this out. The holiday period was always going to be disruptive, but I hadn't anticipated just how disruptive it'd be. On the one hand, it was a wonderful week or two of catching up with family. There was a -lot- of family time. A fair bit of turkey and mince pies, too. All good.

Balancing it out, I'm pretty sure I caught Covid off of work colleagues just as the holiday started. There were quite a few Covid-related staff illnesses in the leadup to the Christmas, and around the 23rd I started to feel... well, at first like I had a cold, so nothing special, right? Bit of a cough, bit tired, occasional sniffy nose. Nothing a constant supply of Advil couldn't handle. By the time I twigged it might be something more than a cold, and pulled out an old nose-swab test (a year out of date) to test myself, it unsurprisingly came back negative. And yet, two weeks on, it's still here, now with added exhaustion, occasional brain fog, and general sense of malaise. I've been heading to bed early, waking late, and still feeling like crap every day. Maybe it's Covid, maybe it's not; either way, I've been a miserable mess to be around since the start of 2025.

Needless to say, this hasn't made for a great start to the writing year. I'd had all sorts of plans: a wrap up to 2024, that Christmas side-story I was writing, a follow-up to those surveys at the end of the year, and other stuff, but it's all fallen to one side. I've been trying to drag myself to the keyboard just to write this weekly update since the start of the year and this is the first day I've managed it.

So - again, I apologise for the temporary disruption to services. I'll be back at it ASAP, there just might be a further short delay as I get my act together. If you'd prefer to switch your subscription over to a lower (or free) tier whilst I sort myself out, I totally understand - but if you can bear with me a little longer, I reckon I'll be back at it within a few days, and start pushing new content out by next week.

-F.

Thank you for the understanding, and hopefully I'll be back at it asap.

"Muddle"'s an excellent word for how life feels sometimes!

Thank you, the understanding is appreciated! (Recovery would be so much easier if little things like -work- didn't get in the way.)

Your health comes first, the story second. Take all the time you need and I wouldn't dream of turning the subscription to a lower setting. I'm so glad you got to have some actual holiday cheer before the viral curb stomp.

Was it John Lennon who said this? "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." Please be encouraged: We all know what it's like to muddle through.
