Writing Update: 13/12/20

Start of week: 18, 760

End of week: 19, 687 (+965 moved to chapter 7)

Change: +1,246

Year to date: +209, 759

One of those misleading weeks were a little cleanup creates an impression of not much progress. I wrote just under four thousand words for the week, but then did a little tidy of chapter 6 and that cut a nearly two thousand from the word count. As I write, fragments gather: notes to self cluster at the bottom of the word document, and snippets of prose or dialogue that I've trimmed from the main text but haven't quite thrown away. Eventually, it either gets moved to the next chapter, displaced to a master "cuts" document, or simply erased.

Which is to say, there's been more progress on chapter 6 than it appears, and it's coming along nicely. I reckon I'll have it done by Christmas.

Meanwhile, my plan to start write shorter works on the side hasn't quite started yet - I need to polish off chapter 6 first. However, a poll's gone out to some of you: one, to the higher-tier members, selecting which story in the pipeline I should focus on; and one to free members, in a blatant attempt at luring you into becoming paying members. I'll post the result of those polls in next week's update.

In a strangle little aside, I was wondering: how much philosophy do you like with your erotica? Yes, an odd question. I ask it because chapter 6 introduces a character prone to a little contemplative musing as he engages with our protagonist. Do you find those kind of asides annoying - basically just skipping over it to get to better stuff - or do you enjoy the occasional aside, breaking up the more salacious or tantalising moments in the story?

Next week:

Monday: Chapter 5-6, The Death of David Saunders, released to all paying members.

Wednesday: A sneak peek from chapter 6 for Constant-tier members and above.

Thursday: Fan art by Fraylim.

Friday: next week's update.

I second that. Cindy and her antagonists are pretty much all thoughtful well read types. Heads make a better noise bouncing off a wall if they are crammed with insights and observations.

I vote for philosophy--Cindy should not be a bimbo.
