Patronage in the background
Added 2022-06-27 21:20:49 +0000 UTCPart of the Story: BackgHello! I just wanted to follow up on the message I sent earliabout inserting patrons a scertain level into the fiction. AN exaAn example of what I mean might be soemsomething like this, from the current chapter:
"That woman there: tall and slim in an enviably elegant long dress, backless, slit to the thigh, legs crossed at the knee beneath the dance of fabric, hand delicately held to her throat as she laughed, a precise fall of notes like a chord on a piano; but with eyes that flared like a freshly struck match, and when the man sat opposite turned to call the waiter she grimaced and her fingers curled into fists. Or that girl—Cindy’s age—sat opposite a man a decade older—listening intently like a dog to its master as he spoke, dangling earring sparkling like Christmas ornaments as she nodded to the cadence of his emphatic gesticulation… my, how she rolled her eyes and sighed when he stood to go to the toilet and gazed longingly at the exit."
Moments like that in the story, when the background is being fleshed out with people in the background--if you'd like to find yourself in there at all, or whatever version of yourself you'd like to present--it seems a fun thing I can do as a thank you for your continued support. You could be one of those men or women hanging around a restaurant, at a cafe, on the bus, or whatever.
Let me know if at all interested.

That... is a very good point; I hadn't really considered the reader's experience of finding themselves (or whomever the elected) in the story as being possibly disruptive. Thanks for the perspective. As for Radiohead... I think can managed something! ;) Saw them once live about a decade ago - absolutely amazing performance.

2022-06-28 17:23:01 +0000 UTCI really appreciate the offer, and I understand you are trying to give some extra value for higher levels of patronage but for me personally it's not needed. I kind of 'insert' myself into the story anyway by enjoying David's journey vicariously so seeing my actual self in the tale seems, 'weird' (for lack of a better word). For other patrons it might well be of value to them. I could I suppose get you to insert personal reference points such as old BMW tourers or the musical back catalogue of Radiohead, but given the tale is set in the near to medium future it seems a tad anachronistic to include turn of the century details. Just keep the tale coming at whatever speed works for you and I'll be pleased as punch, or maybe something less fruity. Perhaps 'Pleased as Irish whiskey with a splash of maple syrup' works better.
