Hello Patron 🏄♂️
One of our awesome members suggested that I cover how I paint landscapes/environments in my style- and I was like hell yeah that'd be super fun to make a video on.
Thumbnailing: Small, quick sketches used to plan out a composition, lighting, or overall idea. They're low-detail and help you experiment before committing to a full piece.
Edges / Edge Control: Refers to how soft or sharp the transition is between two shapes or colors. Good edge control helps guide the viewer’s eye and creates a sense of focus, depth, and form. Hard edges grab attention; soft edges suggest subtle transitions or distance. In my painting, I applied it to the transition between our light and shadow areas.
Reflected Light: Light that bounces off nearby surfaces and softly illuminates the shadow side of a form. It adds realism and depth, especially in areas that would otherwise be pure shadow. In our case, it was the color of the sky, indirectly affecting our shadows
Atmospheric Perspective: The effect of the atmosphere on objects viewed at a distance. Farther objects appear lighter, cooler, and less detailed due to particles in the air. It’s a useful trick for creating depth in landscapes.

👆Above is an older piece I painted, that follows the same process outlined in the video.

👆Above (2) are the exercises that I mentioned in the video as well
-Try sketching simple forms, and loosely painting some grass on the more upwards facing planes. Grass and vegetation doesn't always behave like this, but I consider this as a personal shorthand of mine to quickly get the idea down. Now that I think about it, the same logic could be applied with snow too!
-For the edge exercise, try filling in a page with some fun shapes, then locking the layer, and "carving" into it with shadow. Think not only of the imaginary light source and form it is draping around, but the soft/hard transition it makes when going from light to dark- this is essentially how I approached rendering in my landscape.

I'm now working on a course! We're still in the early phases of production, but it will serve as a one-stop-shop to learning all about my style and workflow under one cohesive curriculum. I'll keep you guys posted 🔥
Our next sticker drop is in the works. More details coming soon wooho
I am hungry and gonna make some dinner now !
