This one is a pretty sick idea i've been sitting on for a while. I wanted to do a self portrait but with the brain and skull bits exposed- not in a gory way but more like an anotomical sculpture made up of different visible layers. When i get around to rendering, I think it'd be best to play up my blocky/simplified style to avoid this from looking too macabre. Hopefully that shouldn't bee to difficult since I spent a good amount of time refining this sketch!
Snippets from some style studies. I was thinking about different ways of abstracting the skull shape without loosing too much 3-dimensionality or believability to the anatomy. Also thinking about some methods for shorthanding the eyes in my sketch-phase 🤔
Lately, I've been asking u guys over on Instagram Stories what to sketch, and ngl it's been so fun. I get quite a few requests, so I take it as a challenge to keep each sketch fun and quick, aiming to stay below 5-10min max on each so I can hop to the next ones. I've also been doing these on Procreate, to get myself used to drawing more on my iPad. It's been years since drawing in public (coffee shops, parks, etc.) was a part of my daily practice, so I'm really happy to get out of my comfort zone and start taking my art beyond my normal workstation once again 😂 Think any of these would make for a cool finished painting??
It is me again🗿 I want to make a painting showing off a bit more about me and how i work, featuring my diabolical posture and favorite checkerboard slippers. If I have time this week, I'd love to tighten up the sketch a bit then get into flats for painting.
It's been a sketch-filled week, and I'm really excited to have been pushing myself more conceptually with my art. Constantly trying to improve technique (while important) has been getting a little stale, and taking a step back to think more about what I draw rather than how I draw has been a challenging but seriously rewarding change-of-pace.
